Paradise (John Prine) | How To Play | Beginner Guitar Lesson

Learn how to play PARADISE by John Prine on the acoustic guitar. See chord charts and strum patterns in real time so you can play along.

My goal is to make popular songs playable for beginners. For this to be possible, I may make minor adjustments to the original chords of a song.
Also, keep in mind that I don't go over the full song in the tutorial. This is to keep things short & easy to follow for you guys. The same chord progressions are simply repeated for the remaining verses and chorus’s. Download the chord chart to get the full song with all the words & chords.

Man Ive been playing for like 5 months now and haven’t made any progress as far as a whole song down singing and all. Thanks to you, I was able to learn my first and most favorite song ever. Thank you!

Great lesson. Quick note, John Prine’s classic recording lingers on the D chord for an extra measure here and there. For example, in the chorus there’s an extra measure of the D chord between the lines “...where Paradise lay, ” and “Well, I’m sorry my son...”
It’s a simple and subtle thing that I like to think shows how he’s lingering on this memory, or perhaps he’s not ready to move on (moving to the next chord being akin to moving on in one’s life).
Anyways, these extra measures are one of the small details that are good to be aware of, but that shouldn’t frighten off anyone learning the song. They feel pretty random, so don’t sweat it if you don’t play them every time.

I've always played this D G D A I've always seen him play it live like that but his voice is changing and he also changes keys. Thanks for the lesson.

This is a great video and I love the way it's laid out but I don't think you can possibly call it beginner unless you play the song MUCH< MUCH more slowly the first time. I (a beginner!) cannot possibly keep up, and there's no way to play it in slo-mo, of :'(

Hey, what tuning is this supposed to be in? I can't figure it out, if someone could tell me, I'd appreciate it.
