Sang that song with my sister in the 70's--I was 7. So sad that he was right.

My parents and relatives were born in Bremen Ky in Muelenburg KY. Lived there before and during the depression. Moved to Detroit for work in the Auto industry. Talking about the 1930’s when my dad got laid off during automobile model change over every year, he would pack us up and drive to my moms parents farm. We would stay for two three weeks. You went by the TVA Peabody coal fired power plant, probably one of the largest coal fired utilities in the USA. You could see miles and miles of strip mined land, a disaster. And everyone down there sang that song. There were only two industry down three, coal mining snd tobacco farms.

They'd nicknamed that big shovel "Big Hog".🐷 When traveling North towards Owensboro on the Western KY Parkway(now I165) you could see a huge coal shovel. Not there anymore. Maybe that was Big Hog???
