DIY Compost bin- fast, easy and cheap!

I use $10 hardwire mesh (10'x3') from any hardware store for this super easy and fast DIY compost bin. It only takes about two minutes to make and is very simple, requiring no tools. It is the perfect size, about 3 feet in diameter and allows for air to get to it. To make faster compost, use a leaf blower to vacuum up your leaves. This shreds your leaves allowing for faster breakdown. I add red wiggles to the compost to speed the process up. The end product is rich compost that benefits the garden and plants.

MAJOR SUGGESTION: I do the exact method, but found I was ripping my hands and clothes on the sharp wired top, so I took an old garden hose, cut a slit into it the full length and placed around the top of the cage. I used zip ties to fasten the hose to the cage top every few inches and it 1) makes it easy to lift the cage so I can turn the compost and 2) it adds structural strength to the bin. No more cuts or snags, hardware will tear you apart eventually - you should see my pitch fork handle, it was mangled with deep scratches before I added the hosing.

Hey, I wanted to let you know I've used 2 bins like this for the past 3 years and they are GREAT! Easy and cheap.

Finally, a straightforward and to the point video. This costs $20 now but still cheaper than other alternatives. Thank you!

I have been watching so many make your own compost videos and this is by far the easiest and simplest. I also think it looks a lot better than ugly plastic bins. Thank you!

I've been searching endlessly for a compost bin. They're too expensive & too small for hot compost. This idea is perfect, down right genius!! Thank u for sharing.

VERY HELPFULL :)Thank you!
I was having a hard time deciding how to compost, whether I dig a hole, make a pile or use up leftover tubs.
I feel comfortable with this idea.
No mess and visually appealing.

Ty. Just had gutters cleaned out. They has beautiful compost started with worms! I have wire in my " hoarding" junk. So happy I found this vid. And yes I'm putting that old hose on the top rim.😊

Thank you so much - I just bought mine and due to space I've cut my 10ft in half to make them smaller in diameter. I 'll be using cable ties instead of wire. You've really helped simplify something that most youtubers have made complicated! Thank you so much!

Thank you for the video.  I will be making this today.  The only thing I will do differently is probably use metal tent stakes to make sure it doesn't blow away in the wind.

Thanks for the video. I want to do my own composting but I'm poor and can't afford a store bought composter. I will definitely be using this

Hello Judopuff from west Cork in Ireland. Thank you very much for the simple suggestion. I thought I was being clever over a year ago buying a rotating compost barrel. It wasn't cheap. To this inexperienced person it seemed like a good idea - being able to rotate the mix. But it's NOT a good idea. When it fills up you can't turn it it's SO heavy and you can't access the compost at the bottom without great difficulty. I went to the hardware store the other day to try and get a 'normal' bin and they said the company now only makes the rotating one. AND he conceded that he has had many complaints from customers who had bought the 'barrel'. Well thanks to you my next compost solution is ten feet of chicken wire! Mark

Great idea, thanks! I just ordered red wigglers for an indoor bin (they don't survive harsh winters or summers) and also got a deal for some free Red European Nightcrawlers so I will use this idea to make an outdoor bin for those guys who are cold-hardy and like to dig much deeper than the wigglers.

Thank you thank you thank you I had that fencing in my yard just laying around had no use for it. Now I'm motivated to make a compost for my chickens this saved me so much thanks.
