CrossFit Games will continue in Fort Worth after athlete drowns during swimming portion

Friday's events will begin with a special tribute honoring Đukić at Dickies Arena at 10 a.m.

None of the news stations are talking about about the fact a fan jumped in to try help him but the officials told them to get out of the water. The people on paddle boards then went to look where the fans said someone went under but couldn’t see anything so they just continued with the event. If they had stopped the event then and started a search immediately the outcome may have been different.
They only started the search once the event had finished… gross negligence

I am glad they are continuing with the games for the sake of the request of the family but it wouldn’t surprise me is this is the last games. More then likely they are going to get the pants sued off them

Wow the game organizers couldn’t possibly be any more money hungry! They failed to have adequate and sufficient safety in place and a man died! You would think Fort Worth would have stoped the games if they didn’t! What happened was criminal negligence!

These athletes are prepared to go all out and push their body to the limits. The fact that they would program such a swim after the run makes no sense, the swim should always be done first when your body is fresh so that if exhaustion sets in it'll happen during a run and not in the water where you can drown. Its such a shame to hear this, my condolences to the family and to all those effected by such a loss.

CFG organizers understaffed the swim event. The paddleboard guides were not able to detect distressed swimmers right in front of them. And according to witnesses in some public interviews the technical officials ignored hints that someone drowned.
This looks like a violation against the duty to rescue including supervision failure that provoked this.

The simple fact is that CF didn’t have the proper safety measures for the open water swim. As a diver, if you’re in the water and you get a cramp after running 3 miles and doing other components that require extreme exertion, you fall under the water and can’t get your head above.. you will drown. If any one of those competitors fell under the water it would’ve also taken an hour to get them out?! Really? Just swimming in a group with no dive team prepared to deal with a tired swimmer lol.. this is dumb. If I was a competitor that was in that water my heart would be falling to my stomach knowing if I got tired not a single person would’ve noticed and I would have absolutely drown too.. like.. absolutely not. Being fit is one thing but we aren’t fish. You can’t breathe under water it’s not rocket science

The show must continue, of course, with safety precautions. They can have a moment of silence in his memory. People die from car accidents every time. It will never stop people from driving cars.
