Tony does seem like a fun friend to hang out with. Not surprised Andre like him.

Just wanting to say I met Tony Atlas at a January 2023 wrestling show. He was the nicest guy. He wrestled a good match too! Great stuff here. He's got plenty of wrestling history to speak of.

Tony actually makes a really good point. It's about perception. Hogan and Muraco may have had similar size in arms, but on the longer frame of Hogan his arms would be perceived as smaller than Muracos on his shorter frame.

I wish all of the other wrestling shoot interviewers would watch this video and see why James is the best in the business, and it's simple. He let's the wrestlers talk. There have been countless Tony Atlas shoot interviews over the years, and that's great because Tony is an awesome story teller, but in many of them the interviewer is talking just as much as Tony is. James barely says a word in the clip because he knows what he's doing. He knows we want to hear stories, not conversations. He's not trying to get himself over like so many shoot interviewers do, he's just doing his job, and that's why he's the best at it and has been for a while now. Honestly, his next shoot could be with Rocco the Dummy from LOD and I would watch.

I'm guessing Andre didn't like when people talk about his size because, in his view, Andre was seen as a freak or sideshow.
It's almost similar to when people talk about a small person's size.

First of all, I think if Andre liked you, you were essentially a made man in the locker room. Second, Andre saying he wished he could be Tim White reminds of this story from a documentary about the 1992 Dream Team. The US team's bus was stuck in traffic in Barcelona and John Stockton decided he was tired of sitting around and got off the bus to go sightseeing. David Robinson (who was 7-feet-tall) watched the 6-foot-one Stockton disappear into the crowd and said he'd give anything to be able to do that.

The arm size is true Hogan also has quite a long arm as well. If you pause this video right away you can see how long Hogan's arm is and how big it still looks even though this the video is 20ish years out of Hogan's prime size for his arms.

I can believe this about Andre. I kind of understand believe it or not. I was close to the same size I am now in the 6th grade. I'm about 5ft8, but still pass for bigger. I remember I was taller than a lot of the kids, but as a kid I really didn't understand it. I wanted to be a kid, and it didn't help with my grandfather saying you're big. Well, he would say something else, but I don't want to use the lord's name in vain. Even though it bugged me he wouldn't stop, and one day he asked me if I was the biggest one in that school, that's when we still had 6th grade centers here. I was annoyed and said no. Which was true there were kids taller and thicker than me (I was pretty skinny). I got it all throughout school, but worse was in 6th grade. I never really grew much after that year as I mentioned. However, my grandfather who claimed to be 5ft9 (He must have lost height, I think because he wasn't that size later), came and stood by me junior year and said "he's taller than me." So there I was, he and my uncle, and my uncle's girlfriend all said I was 6ft0. However, my mom and sister knew it wasn't true, and before a wrestling unit in P.E I was measured at 5ft8 Sophomore year, and I didn't grow since then. I started telling people I was 5ft9 and then 5ft10 because it was out there. Some people called me out though, one guy in weight training said I'm a few inches taller than you, you're 5ft8. A 6ft0 woman at work told me no way you're 5ft10. I'm still thin so there are those that think I'm tall. My ex church friend who is 5ft2 would always act like I'm a giant. Then it was like well you're tall for an Asian. That's bull too, I'm half Korean and some tower over me. Don't get me wrong I used to lift weights and like being muscular, but I'm different in that I still hate being called tall, even though I'm not. Yes, luckily I didn't become 6ft5 or anything, but I'm still sensitive about it today. There are those times when I think if I would have been 7ft though maybe I could have worked on basketball instead of weightlifting and become a millionaire in the NBA (long shot to make it still I know). I think maybe it would have been worth. Sorry, long rant. Lol.

i heard a story about giant haystacks by a guy i know who used to be a circuit wrestler, pete lapaque was his ring name and he would drive the mini van on tour as well as wrestle, he wouldnt get out the van as the wrestlers were going for a look around the town but luke as he was known wouldnt leave the van because he felt like a circuis freak the same as andre said in this story

So glad I stumbled upon this channel! I love these interviews!

The interviewer didn't really seem to dig Tony's point, but it made perfect sense to me. That's like someone being 200lbs. If you're only 5'1, someone might call you "fat." If you're 6'1, they won't. It's the same concept.

It’s hilarious how they ask Tony Atlas a question and he rambles on so much that he’ll barely answer the actual question lol!
