On Facebook my brother is still alive. Forever stuck at a happy, healthy, and popular young man. He was 20 when he passed and pictures and memories still pop up. Hard to believe I’m over half a decade older than my older brother was ever able to get.

But it doesn't have to be sad! In fact, it's beautiful!
How great to be remembered as the "one guy in an ancient forum that had the solution to such a specific problem"
How wonderful it is to always have a place dedicated to your memory, even when your tombstone crumbles and turns to dust.
How thoughtful it was of them to continue educating, delighting, and entertaining future generations for years and years to come.
It isn't a graveyard. It's a bright memorial to all of life!

Internet archaeology will be a thing assuming that websites don’t implement some kind of cleanup procedure for getting rid of old conversations and profiles that are just taking up space. The internet has been keeping an immaculate record of daily life and human interactions since it gained popularity. It’s also worth remembering that the internet has been around for less than 50 years. What will it be like in the future when you will see conversations and videos from over a century ago? Seeing social media profiles that say “last online 128 years ago”?

Seeing two bots in the comments of any 17 min old short is annoying, but seeing that in the comments of this particular short is a bit existentially horrifying

I was in treatment and a lot of the people I was close to there didn't make it. I started a snapchat, and had literally three suggestions to friend people I know are dead. I wish I could.

I found an old discussion board from when i was 13 it was crazy going back to what people once talked about and how not mych had changed.

Whats crazier is one message board from when i was a kid is still partly active and its so strange like watching the past play out.

I would like to say there is a really important factor to it feeling like a graveyard that they missed

It could be a graveyard. Or it could be a scrapbook 📔

its even sadder when you find a channel of a community-famous person that just stopped posting but you know theyre dead irl, not mysteriously gone, and nothing on their channel says theyre gone. The channel was abandonedand their friends came up and said it...

Like someone else said the Internet is a time capsule that can be seen at anytime. Like I could prob find an ancient post on some random old site about what they did that morning

I believe the word you are looking for is "Nostalgia".

It’s just one of those things as well to see long forgotten videos that were posted up to 10 years ago and going on there to see recent messages of other people who also remembered it or got suggested the video

I mean it’s like books or photographs or time capsules— we can love and cherish rather than be forced to forget, and that’s so awesome now but I guess “haunted” has stigma huh
