Soldiers have hearts, Politicians don’t.

They didn’t necessarily start killing eachother again. Iirc, they were moved to another frontline and trenches. They didn’t want to fight after.

actually, after the truce ended, soldiers refused to kill the people they played football or hung out with, so they were repositioned to different trenches

The thing abt this is that it just shows how the soldiers never actually hated eachother, they were just following orders

We had this event as a lesson in our English literature textbooks.
It was about a German man who wrote his wife a letter telling all these but he never came back. it was someone else who found this letter in an old shelf of a junk desk and delivered it to his wife.
The plot was that his wife was still waiting for him and mistook the stranger (who delivered her letter) as her husband and welcomed him offering him a christmas cake.

As a history student, an interesting fact, it started from a British guy going to No Man's Land (zone in the middle of warfare) and asking for a pen to write a letter home, a german guy came to him and asked his comrades not to shoot. They shook hands and then played football, had photos, letters, shared photos and even talked and ate together 😊❤

Canada: I might have to admit something

(Canada didn’t celebrate the Christmas truce and gave beans with explosives)

I actually did an essay on this for my history class earlier this year which I got an A on. During this time of the war, both sides thought that the war would end quickly but that wasn’t the case. They had to keep fighting during the winter when it was cold and rainy, which is horrible since they lived in trenches where rain flooded their home into massive piles of mud. They also had to spend time outside of battles burying their dead soldiers underneath the trenches resulting in horrible odors. Life in the trenches for both sides was miserable and the main reason for that truce was to escape that reality for a day. They exchanged gifts such as cigars and candies they had and did play football and card games that the Germans had. This story is amazing and shows the respect, kindness, and empathy both sides had for each other ❤️
