It would make more sense to say that we've gone through a Series of Cataclysms and our timeline is much shorter than what is taught. 200 years to go from horse and buggy to Hadron Collider. Imagine that the earth's crust is a giant municipal waste dump. It bears the marks of many civilizations which have come and gone. Some were more advanced, some were less. The earth just keeps going on as civilizations come and go and eventually fade in to oblivion. In some cases entire histories have been lost.

Antarctica is very, very important. It's most definitely connected to Atlantis, and could very well still be thriving. Waiting for timelines to catch up.
