I have a very low capability for empathy yet got 3/3. Telling if someone is forcing a smile based off how they're smiling can just be a learned skill.
Edit: just to clarify for people assuming my comment is meant to show how cool I am, it is not. A combination of apathetic depression and autism means I do not feel empathy. This is not cool or edgy, it is very undesirable.

Tbh too high of empathy can be a curse. Since I immediately place myself automatically in the shoes of others, when I hear of sad experiences I can immediately relate. But it comes at the cost of affecting me with the same feelings for a while

This is more a test of social awareness than a test of empathy. Some ppl r very empathetic but can not easily tell the difference between real and fake smiles. There are also times where you need to know a person and their mannerisms in order to tell their true emotions by simply their facial expression.

Look at the corners of the mouth. Those corners turn upward in a genuine smile, but remain flat in a fake smile. I’ve heard this is because humans have very limited voluntary control over the specific facial muscles that cause the edges of the mouth to curl upward. There’s supposed to be a trick in acting where you think of something that genuinely pleases you when you smile, to elicit that involuntarily curl, so the smile will appear authentic.

I got all 3 and it actually works when you look at the eyes you can easily figure out about their feelings or words being real genuine or not. Not the eyeballs, but the skin around it

Highly empathetic, but also (previously) highly codependent and consumed as the prey that I was with narcissists and manipulators. 😂

Funny how we can be so intuitively aware of how others are feeling, that we forget we exist ourselves and let worthless cretins walk all over us by telling ourselves what fixable victims our abusers are. 🤦‍♂️

I’ve learned to notice the eyes when the person is genuine.
And ‘listen’ for a smile when on the phone. You’d be surprised how accurate you could be.

The eyes and teeth really show it. Some people probably thought the 3rd images looks the same. But look at her cheeks, the genuine one has a wider smile.
