My high school sweetheart's mom was nutty religious. I remember her being mad at me for "not hating the gays". She quoted me Leviticus 18:22 "You shall not lie with a man as with a women, it is an abomination". So of course, I respond with 1st Timothy 2:12 “I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet”. She said that's just how their culture was back then it doesn't mean anything now. I told her your right it's all just from a time when culture was different and none of it is true for modern times. She was not pleased.

What I find fascinating is the fact that they pick some parts of the Old Testament that go with their narratives but try to reject the ones they don't agree with . It's preposterous!!!

I am an atheist myself, but morality is not mathematics and therefore not a fixed value, but something that changes over time. For example, when you reached the age of 30 at most, no one would have questioned the fact that you were married at an average age of 12. Today it's all different.

So when he wrote the new testament this all-knowing God was admitting that he had made mistakes and needed to change things?

This is why children, in school should be taught basic formal reasoning like they are taught reading, writing & counting all throughout their time in school. Can you imagine? A country, for the most part of critical thinkers. It doesn't help those in power & politicians, but what a great race we would become & what a great world it would be.

Christians claim to deny the Old Testament yet also believe in Creation, Adam and Eve, The Flood and The Ten Commandments.

"Saul was ordered to kill the Amalekites because the Amalekites were the first to kill the Israelite children." But Samuel said: as your sword has made women childless, So shall your mother be childless among women". And Samuel hacked Agag into pieces....( 1 Samuel 15:33)

And the new testament: Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them."

Regardless of it being objective or not this is still their god condoning to even encouraging terrible behavior. Why should I follow a God if this is their best work they can do at the time

If God is all powerful, why did he command a human to do the killing. Why didn't God just cause a flood or an earthquake or a plague or something like that to kill the infants. Having a human do it and then him obviously telling others that God commanded him to kill infants is morally wrong.
Then and now (how else would the writers of the book know unless Saul told them God commanded?)

Keep in mind, we might think certain things today are moral that will not be considered moral in 100 years. We just aren’t capable of knowing it right now. And if you think you are the exception, you’re kidding yourself.

The Old Testament shows God to be jealous, insecure, vindictive and cruel. It's certainly not something to aspire to
