There is a difference between "lying" and "withholding information". Lying would be saying that your favorite color is green when it is actually blue. Withholding information would be telling your roommates you are "just visiting someone" and not explaining why you limp every single time you come back from one of those trips.

Edit: In response to the "lies by omission" comments and those of similar nature, I have to say, "The application of that definition depends on the circumstances." Lies of omission are defined as the withholding of _critical_ information that is important to a conversation. It is not applicable to every scenario.

Reminds me of the ancient language in the Inheritance Cycle book series. It is impossible to lie in the ancient language, meaning if you speak a promise in it, you are 100% guaranteed to fulfill it in one way or another.
