'The Invention of Lying' Best Moment

Because sometimes, you can't help but lie.

The premise of the movie is that lying doesn't exist nor even the concept of which. One person in the whole world just discovered lying. The movie was doing great up to that warm touching climax, then it crashed down hill from there on.

At 2:21 when he says “and dance... you used to dance” that was amazing acting and it breaks me every time.

I never thought that the day will come that Ricky Gervais makes me crying.

“I’m gonna see my mother again when I die, ” gets me to cry every time.

One thing I didn't liked about the film was, just because you can't lie doesn't mean you have to say everything that is on your mind.

What is heart wrenching about this scene is not that he lies to spare his mom pain in her final moments, but that he wishes more than anything that it were true. The imagining of paradise against the cruel reality of death breaks his heart.

When I was in a hospital a few years ago and on the brink of death, they asked me if I needed a priest or minister. I said "No, I need a good doctor."

My philosophy teacher showed us this movie in class. I cried. Loudly. In public. Do I care? No.

Ricky makes you feel in this scene, mark of a good actor.

If you look at all the scenes Ricky has shown upset/sad emotion in, from The Office up right through to Derek, you cant deny that he is an amazing actor to show this level of intense feeling that makes anyone watching share the moment and feel the pain.

This is one of my favorite movies. The fact that Ricky wrote, produced, and assisted in directing (am I correct?), makes it an even bigger treat.
It has such an interesting premise; original, unique. Hilarious & poignant, as well.

For such a short scene it's so powerful. His mom is scared because no one really knows what happens after death and he uses the power of lying to give her a single moment of peace and happiness before it's all over. This scene when i saw it in theaters just hit so many people in the audience only expecting a comedy and a lot of us were crying for a few minutes afterwards.

"You used to dance."

Fuck. That never fails to make me cry. It reminds me of the relationships my loved ones had with their own lives, how they were the center of their own worlds, with curiosity and love, how they gradually put away the loose ends of their experiences over the course of their lives, only to brave the end forever. No matter what I knew or believed, I prayed they could experience things afterwards. It was for their sake, not mine. It wasn't that I needed to be with them, even though I did, but if they could just get to do what they wanted it would be enough. "You used to dance." Because it seemed so unfair they couldn't get that anymore. I was so wrapped up in the distractions of my own life that I let myself forget that fact. And you wish you could get back that time to let them know that at least, if it meant anything, that they meant the world to you, even if you didn't always know how to show it.

"We are all part of a Never-Ending Story." - Bastian's Mother

We are all characters in a story book, that shall be read again, and again, and again. Everyday, you write your part.

Ok, yes, there can be a wide series of arguments/discussions with Atheism and religion and Heaven and fears of death but let's all just enjoy this scene where a man chooses to make his mother feel as incredible a possible in the literal last seconds of her life.

Anyone who can do a sad scene like this and cry convincingly without over doing it is just an amazing actor

When I saw this part of the film I started to weep uncontrollably. It was so unexpected especially in a comedy! I feel like it touches on just what we all feel about death and wanting to reconnect with loved ones.

The more serious and the more emotional a scene with Ricky is, the more I expect him to burst into hysterical laughter.
