What is Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) - Symptoms, Treatment and More

Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) comprises a large group of inherited vision disorders that cause progressive degeneration of the retina, the light sensitive membrane that coats the inside of the eyes. Peripheral (or side) vision gradually decreases and eventually is lost in most cases. Central vision is usually preserved until late in these conditions. Some forms of RP can be associated with deafness, obesity, kidney disease, and various other general health problems, including central nervous system and metabolic disorders, and occasionally chromosomal abnormalities.
Symptoms often begin in childhood. They include decreased vision at night or in low light and loss of side vision (tunnel vision).
There's no effective treatment for this condition. Wearing sunglasses may help protect remaining vision.

Retinitis pigmentation (RP ) is a term for a group of inherited eye diseases that can lead to loss of sight.
It damages the retina- The light_ sensing tissue at the back of the eye.
Although there’s no proven cure, there are steps you can take to protect your sight.
It usually starts in childhood.
Most people with RP lose much of their sight by early adulthood. Then by age 40, They are often legally blind.
Early RP symptoms
Lose of night vision, making it harder to drive art dusk or night or to see in dimly lit rooms.
Later RP symptoms
Lose of side( Peripheral) vision, leading to tunnel vision – like looking through a straw.
This loss of central vision also affects color vision.

Assalamu alaikum sir, I am RP patient, I want to do LASIK. I did pre LASIK test, mam said after seeing the report, I can do LASIK with RP disease but now I see 6/9 with glasses and after LASIK till 50-60 years of age 6/ I will see after 9th, power may come, sir, I am 22+, should I do LASIK now! Well, sir, will RP disease get better if I take gene therapy. Please tell me, sir?
