There are a few differences actually.
HDMI 2.1 and Wifi 6e being just a couple, if anyone cares.
That said I'm still rocking my m1 max I bought new on launch and it's a beast, although also a bit heavy since it's the 16 inch model.

I am still totally fine with my M1 Max. Only reason to update would be the Nanite capability of the M3 in Unreal Engine 5. Can‘t use this technology on Mac platform now. But everything less than the expensive M3 Max would be a downgrade in GPU performance. The M1 Max is still a beast.
