We decided to quit growing lettuce in our North Texas garden for two main reasons. However, our salads are still filled with many ingredients from our backyard. This video explains why we prefer growing vegetables such as kale, sorrel, green onions, swiss chard, oregano, dill, basil, parsley, and cilantro.

Thank you for this VERY informative video. In the past I have grown these leafy greens. Because you outlined their health benifits I am even more encouraged to continue. I have red sorrel growing and did not know of its value as food. I grow it because its pretty to look at. Thanks again.

You should be able to grow arugula (the pioneers knew it as “rocket”). It is native to the Mediterranean and grows wild everywhere in Italy.
You can include it in a salad, cook briefly with bacon, a tiny bit of sugar, and a splash of vinegar. It also makes a great addition to a panini-grilled sandwich.

I was just thinking if growing lettuce was worth it. Grew romaine successfully for the first time this year, but was thinking of what could I use that space for instead of lettuce. Great video!

'Perpetual spinach' doesn't go to seed, even in subtropic climate as in Brisbane, Australia.
It grows slower during summer though.
Big leaves, taste more like a mild type of spinach than lettuce, good nutrients though. Can be used cooked or raw.
Also called "Perpetual spinach chard" and "Spinach beet'. 🥬😊
