Honestly, I think whichever one you learn second will be the hardest one to get into since you get really accustomed to the first interface. I started learning animation with ToonBoom and now that I'm trying to learn Animate, it seems way too complicated and weird and, based on other comments, it's the same for them or vice versa.

Just saying, ToonBoom Harmony was way easier for me to get into than Adobe Animate.

I actually found Toom Boom harmony way easier to learn as a beginner than Adobe animate :P
I actually still don't even know how to use animate properly xD

I believe the software doesn't matter it your doing it as a hobby/beginners. I've never really debated on a software, but I think why certain programs are better for professional animators is two reasons.
1) Dead-lines. People need to work fast and efficiently, since you have to work with what you have you must work around and other ways to things which may take much longer than could have been in anther program with the tools.
2) Animation is collaborative. You need to work with others so having a program that most people use you can collaborate easier.
The professional requires your A game on time and you don't have the luxury to take you time to do the extra times it takes to look professional on a non-professional program. It's you're career not something just for fun. You wouldn't tell a professional dentist to use their some random pliers to pull your teeth out. You'd what to be using the best equipment for their craft to job done smoothly.

In my understanding, first of all i am an animator, and i am a flash animator, i started learning toonboom few months ago, i found it very interesting software, but some of the features i didnt like there because the way of using them are more complicated than in animate cc, like ''drawing subtitution'', is not better than '' keyframe caddy'' in animate cc, i think animate cc or flash got them well, in term of special effects, i think adobe is protecting his others products like after effect, adobe cannot put all the special effects into animate cc other wise people are not gonna use after effects anymore, so it's a balance, i saw toon boom harmony now got genarts saphire plug ins, which after effect and adobe premiere use, so toonboom got only one big product and its putting more effort on it, compare to adobe. Some years ago premiere pro has features of creating dvd menus, and people were not using encore dvd anymore, until adobe removed that feature from premiere pro and left it only in encore dvd, adobe want people to use its softwares, it's business, they cannot put all the features into one software i think we will end up doing everything into one specific software.

toon boom harmony offers the ability to buy the product and permanently own it. Adobe does not. If you're looking to animate long term, toon boom harmony is the way to go (and it's the superior animation product anyway). If you don't plan on animating much and just want to fiddle around for a while, adobe might be better -- or consider other alternatives such as Blender Grease Pencil, OpenToonz, etc.

I tried the Essentials version of Harmony on my laptop (it was a free trial) but it crashed. So I use Animate CC. 😛

In my opinion the animate/after effects combo is massively powerful and flexible enough for almost any type of 2d animation.
It’s served me well for years.
And it’s very unlikely you would need any other type of application for any type of 2d animation.
Animate does crash sometimes though. It’s done this in every version. (I have been using it since flash 5 and using latest version now)
So bare that in mind. Auto saves should stop this being a problem though, and it’s just a mild annoyance at this point.

The main strength of animate is its incredibly easy to use. This helps speed up creating, drawing and animation.

I don’t know anyone that can produce an animatic from first concept to timed and roughed out animation quicker than myself using animate.
(And I have hired hundreds of animators and illustrators over the years.... not to say I’m the best, just saying I’m super efficient when using animate. )

Toon boom animation was used for mostly cartoons from CN, like steven universe, also Family Guy, South Park, Rick and Morty, The Simpsons, etc. No wondee its so expensive, its one of the most greatest softwares for animation and storyboarding

I want to get into animation, kinda like a hobby more than anything, and I'm not sure just what software to use. Since I'm not planning on making anything extremely professional or anything, I'm not sure if I should Animate OR Harmony. Also, I need a good, cheap tablet to start out with
