What absolutely sold me on him as an antagonist was him saying "you didn't value ANY of them." He wasn't angry about Puss just being alive, he was angry about him never *appreciating* and living 8 arrogant lives instead.

"I was there to witness all of them", and he was actually there during all of puss in boots deaths. Such a well written and creepily cool character.

The fact that when Death resigned, his wistle switched from a distorted tone to a relaxing tone, with just changing a few notes. That was amazing.

I can't get over the fact how well designed he is. The cape from the classical depiction of robed death, a wolf predator to a cat, khopeshes from ancient Egypt to symbolize Anubis, the eerie whistling, just perfect!

I love how offended Death was that Puss had 9 lives, not just how he spent them but the very fact he was privileged to have more than one, like it was an affront to the natural order. Little details like that really added a lot of depth to his personality. Excellent character writing, truly a master class.

When death said “and you didn’t value ANY of them” with such resentment.. it was chilling fr. Makes u think about ur life too. Deaths motives are written perfectly, the fact that he’s so angry about the multiple lives and not having valued a single one goes so well with the message of the story. It’s hard not to love the way the film is woven together seamlessly.

He wasn’t a villain, never was, he’s a force of nature.

One of the best antagonists EVER. He's manacing, dark, fierce and mysterious. Always there, lurking in every Puss's deaths, just phenomenal character!!

“Remember this, *death* comes for us all” - what good use of foreshadowing metaphorically and quite literally

I love it how Puss never defeated Death.... because no one can defeat death, he just got more time.
Such a well written character.

One year later and he still has a lasting impact on the internet. He is among Dreamworks’ greatest villains ever

Bro. If I’m 85 on my death bed, if I hear this whistle. I’ll be calm and accept it. It’s more sweet than it should be.

I love how Death leaves without finishing his whistle call
showing that he hasn't finished with Puss and they still have one last encounter waiting for them

This movie is a *love letter* to the character of Puss in Boots. This movie is a *love letter* to action and posing/staging. This movie is a *love letter* to animation as an art medium. This movie is a *love letter* to heartfelt storytelling.

This movie radiates the energy of a passion project in every conceivable way, and honestly I *never* expected it out of anything from the Shrek universe

Fun fact about the whistler in mythology: the further away it sounds, the closer he actually is. And at the ending, the whistle sounded close as he was walking away. God I love small details like this in cinema

I absolutely love Death as a character.
But what's even more amazing is that this two minute video (amazingly done, by the way) uses over half of ALL of his screen time!
Such an amazing character with so little time in the limelight... exquisite!

"i can hear for an arrogant little legend who thought he was immortal—

but I don't see him anymore."

This line just shows how Puss got humbled in the face of Death. Death's satisfaction was just really Puss learning to live life. Bravo to the writers!

I love that after their final interaction, the death whistle changes in pitch and almost sounds like it switched from a minor to a major scale. The whistle is ominous and creepy the whole movie and it sounds more uplifting and optimistic after Death and Puss’ final battle. Cool little detail.
