I think that Iida is autistic. If you look at his hand motions, what appears to be forced eye contact, and the fact that his special interest is to be just like his brother, to the point where he would want to commit murder, and the fact that he obsessively does everything he can to just be like his brother, maybe as a way to ear respect from his family?

As an Autistic person, Im surprised I didn't think about this. I myself have done very similar things to what Midoriya has and they are all things like stims and obsessions with one particular thing at a time. It actually makes me feel more represented, knowing that there is a main character in a show I really like that is very similar to myself.

Honestly, as an autistic person watching MHA, even I didn't consider the idea of him kicking with his quirk because like him I was like "Heroes Punch, duh", neither of us even considered using more than just punches in a fight, then you've got the fact that he's so obsessed with being like All Might that he probably hyperfocused on making his punches good because "I'm using One for All, it's All Might's Quirk, He only punched, which means I have to punch" which doesn't make any sense unless you're the one thinking it

It took him 2-3 seasons to realize he could kick people- 😂

As a autistic, I never thought that I was able to relate to a character and let alone a character I have no empathy for I think he might be my new comfort character idk

I wish there were more videos like these bc I could see many of the mha characters falling under the neurodivergent umbrella but I don't see a lot of people talking about it

I actually related a lot to Deku watching the series. I info dumped using my special interests, talked to myself. Repeated certain phrases or words, and even the feeling of not being able to fit in.
Turned out I showed many more traits of ASD.

I related to Deku’s interview scene with My Lady a lot. (In case anyone doesn’t remember he is very socially anxious and stiff while she is talking to him at the beginning, but when she brings up All Might and Deku’s Delaware smash he suddenly starts rambling with confidence and excitement!) I do the same thing when I’m talking to new people, and that’s often how I made friends growing up whether it be a book series or my art/animation!

My headcanon is that Hatsume Mei is autistic, as someone on the spectrum, I see myself in Mei. The lack of understanding when it comes to how others' perceive failure or my own accomplishments, not realizing people's (apparently obvious) discomfort, short attention span, or even not showing interest for or putting in effort into things I don't like. Hatsume, despite the sports festival being her best shot at getting her business up and running in the future, barely even tried to show off. She did the bare minimum and then just quit, that's a mood for a lot of things in my life

Done very similar things like this, being on the Autism Spectrum myself.

I tend to lose it in a fanboy way when im talking about something i really, really like.

And i tend to stim when im nervous or overstimulated, such as biting my fingers, wiggling them, looking at my phone, and repeating funny cartoon lines.

izuku also stims buy puting his hands together and moving his finger when he is sad

Great video! I've always HCed Deku as autistic and it's wonderful to see someone else lay it out so plainly to see!

I still think Deku is a very inspirational character, it's a story of how All Might saw potential in him and decided to believe in him. Given the chance, Deku could be an amazing hero, the only thing he lacked was a quirk. To me, MHA is a story of how everybody has potential, and that quirks seem to be a metaphor for "privilege" or something to that effect.

Though the metaphor would probably be more relevant to real life if all people with quirks in MHA could share it with another like how All Might does.

I am autistic and I watched MHA for the first time a few months ago and I don't think I was even done with season one when I was like "Oh yeah, this boy's autistic"

Regarding stims: I think a lot of it got channeled into working out when Izuku got his powers. Notable examples being the hand grip strengthener he squeezes while studying, and doing arm curls with dumbbells while thinking in his room.
