Bypassing the tire pressure sensor on a 2005 Toyota 4Runner

I have a blinking tire pressure indicator on my 4Runner. I believe one of the sensors was never replaced after an accident. I don't want to spend the money on a new sensor and don't need it anyway. This is an easy way to fool the computer into thinking that the sensors are present and functioning. Using this method, you can actually replace your wheels with aftermarket wheels and not have to install sensors in them. Or if your sensors are failing, you don't have to spend the money on diagnoses at a garage and have them replaced.

If you disconnect the battery, the engine or transmission may need to go through a relearn process. All you'll need to do is drive it like normal. The computer will relearn how to control the transmission. This is normal for many makes of vehicles after disconnecting the battery. Also, the windows may need to go through a relearn process. Here is the process for the windows.

Fully open the window and continuing pressing the button for at least two seconds after the window is fully open. Then fully close the window and hold the switch for at least two seconds once the window is closed.

Thank you, I did this on my 2004 Toyota 4 runner & the light went out. At tire shop today salesman said it would be around $90 a wheel to replace & fix the TPMS . That’s $360 for all. I’m so happy to not ever have to deal with sensors again. Merry Christmas this is a big deal to me. Again thank you 🙏😊🎄

Tobias, Thank you SO much for this step by step video repair to permanently turn off the blinking tire pressure indicator light on my 2005 Toyota 4Runner... My biggest challenge was finding the correct "open" wire "tap" to link the two wires. Found on Amazon with this description: "3M Scotchlok Electrical IDC 560B-BOX, Double Run or Tap, Flame Retardant, Blue, 18-16 AWG (solid/stranded), 14 AWG stranded)"... Perfect repair! With my sincere appreciation.

Thank you!🙏🏼 The dealer said 4 out the 5 sensors are bad in my 2007 4Runner. Would have cost me over $1, 000 for the repairs at the dealer. This video saved me lots of $$$$.

This method also worked on my 2009 Lexus GX 470. The other method of splicing and grounding the blue w/grey or 3rd pin wire didn't work for me as it did for many other 2003-2009 GX 470 owners. Thanks for sharing your video!

Nice clear explanation! Also good camera work and lighting! Hard sometimes for viewer to actually see what is being done. Wish the newer vehicles were as easy to disable. Thanks again.

Also works on a 2004 Toyota 4 Runner. Just make sure and press the wire tap or crimp hard. I had to press it with a pair of pliers to make the connection. Thank you for a great video. That light flashing, especially at night was irritating. I check my tire pressure so much I don’t need TPMS

I ordered new tires, and own my own tire machines. I also have a TPMS computer. It's just an unnecessary expense, and this simple trick just saved me money. Here's a comment and like.. gotta give credit where credit is due. Thanks!

Good clear explanation and it worked. Thanks. Since I bought the wrong connector, I just stripped the wires, twisted them together, and taped them.

Going to do this today. At one point we took our 4runner back again and again after new tires until we discovered it was the spare tire that was setting off the tpms light. Now it just stays on all the time and all the tires (and spare) are at inflated specs. Ordered the "plastice jumper clips" (see another's comment for what to order from amazon) and am now ready to do this today. I'll watch the video and begin the process and I'm sure I'll come back inside and watch it and pause as I go along. Will be so nice not to see that light off when I know the tires are all inflated. Thank You and good luck to anyone else with this problem.

Thanks for the tip. I just ended up taking the module out, removed the PCB and jumpered/soldered the connections together directly on the board with thin enameled wire.
Put it all back together and it works and looks unmodified!

Easy peasy thank you T C. When i started with the backyard mechanic it was 1960's and you had to have a manual or find a library that did. Then YT came along and with a few mouse clicks and voila.

2006 4Runner with this flashing light for last 18 months. I used a small piece of wire inserted into the front of the white connector to shout out the white/black and pink/black wires. Thanks, no longer an annoying flashing light.

Thank you, there is not a single person out there that explains this so well.

Thank you so much for this video, it worked perfectly in my 4Runner. I have been annoyed for so many years with that light flashing and now FINALLY I can have peace while driving lol. Thanks!!

Huge thanks. I just bought a 2005 4Runner and of course, the TPMS light is on. I'm not inclined to install new TPMS sensors with every tire change, which would be the only way to have a fairly reliable system. I'll keep good tires on it, look at them to see that one isn't obviously low, and check the pressures a couple of times a year.

I'll probably wire a small switch in there and label it TPMS - ENABLE/DISABLE.

Thanks this worked perfect on my 07 and saved me a bunch of money on fixing a system that is not needed.

Man thank you for posting this. This has been flashing on my 04 4runner and it’s been bugging the s*** out of me. Just jumped it with a paper clip and wrapped the harness connector with some electrical tape.

The step by step was easy to follow and it worked 100% without any issues. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge with others!

Just did this on my '04 4runner and it worked perfectly. Thanks! I guess you could also wire in a switch to turn on/off as needed, but I don't really care much about the TPMS system so off it goes for good.
