Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.

Imagine it's January 1969, a friend says, "Hey, check out this new album." And you put that turntable needle to this first song. Wow.

The best "hello f world" first-song, first-album introduction of all time. Seismic. A detonation.

Plant was the Sky, Jones was the Clouds, Page was the Lightning, and Bonham was the Thunder.

When The Beatles was your favorite band. Also you enjoy The Stones pretty much. And then suddenly in the year 1969 this kick ass album landed. Mind blow.

It's 1969..I'm at Camp Zama, Japan recovering from wounds recived in Vietnam..I'm 19 years old and longing to be home again.
A bus takes us to the PX to buy some things and I see a line forming outside... We get off the bus and over a loud speaker " Good Times, Bad Times" is blasted through the complex. Folks are there to buy this album for $3.99....I still have it. A slap across the head to what rock and roll was meant to sound like

The first two albums definitely laid the groundwork for what later became known as heavy metal.

The first Led Zeppelin song anyone had ever heard. I've heard stories. My husband's brother is much older. He recalls sitting at a stoplight and then this comes on. He was so dumbfounded that he just sat there a few seconds when the light turned green. Then he heard honking. He immediately went to by the album. My husband was in 3rd grade. He was introduced at a very young age. He does say he didn't much like it then.
As for me, I was only in 2nd grade. Had no clue and wouldn't for years because I was the oldest child. For so many reasons, I consider Led Zeppelin to be the best band I've ever heard. Hands down. I saw them in concert on their Physical Graffiti tour. Amazing talent. Very cerebral, introspective people.
