The consent thing is huge! It allows there to be trust between you and your cat. My dad loves swinging around my cat and we thought he hated that when they first did it, until my dad sat him down and he walked back over and tried to be picked up again! Definitely a “do that again” from our cat

I worked with large breed dogs over 50 years...got too old to be a great guardian for large active breed dogs....then I was adopted by a wonderful tuxedo companion. Jackson because of you I have a deliriously happy tuxedo companion. His question mark tail and his purrs say thanks Jackson. I really appreciate you and so does Shadow 😺😁❤️

Thank you so much for mentioning string!!! I lost a cat in the most horrible way because she ate string. Those rings on plastic bottles also BIG BAD NEWS!!! They get lodged in the throat and believe me, sticking your fingers down the throat of a panicky cat is NOT fun!

I messed up and left my cat unsupervised with a yoyo, and he ate the string. Thankfully he's insured and we got him to the vet within the hour and he's fine. But lesson learned, never leave him with strings. That includes Christmas presents with ribbons

#5 - sometimes you have to supercede consent on some necessary things. Example: my extra-toes kitty needs his hidden nails trimmed because he can't do it himself. He'll never understand why we have to do it, and we try to make it as good of an experience as possible - but gotta have their best interest in mind if consent can't be given. (Another example, being brought to the vet. Our feral-to-indoor rescue would NEVER volunteer for this!)

i pick my cat up without asking, cause 1 if you ask she gets offended, and 2 she gets annoyed in the beginning of being picked up, but right after always feels Happy about being close to me and being high up.

I had a $5000 vet bill because my cat ingested string. Had to have major surgery and suffered complications. Tough, expensive lesson to learn.

So very true. Thank you for reminding us what to make sure we don’t do. I especially agree with whatever a toddler can get into and hurt themselves with, a kitty, can/will get into too. ❤❤❤

Also don't use those feather toys or make sure the cat doesn't eat them. And dump the litter and clean the box completely every couple months. Get a automatic water fountain so kitty can drink good running water too.

In addition to the strings and ribbons, don’t leave rubber bands lying around that they can chew on and swallow.
