Was working on the ambulance when we got a call for a guy trying to steal copper wiring from an electrical vault when he gave himself circumferential burns to his chest. To keep him alive they had to perform multiple escarotomies (when they slice the skin to accommodate the swelling so organs inside, like heart and lungs can still work) around his torso. It was a 14 minute ride to the trauma center (closest burn center was an hour by helicopter) and we gave him 3 liters of saline, 40mg of morphine, 200mcg of fentanyl, and 5mg of versed….and that wasn’t enough. The guy was conscious and in pain the whole time. Lesson: don’t mess with electricity!

The guys cutting the live wires with cutters and a pair of gloves should be in a dictionary as the definition of: "Whatever you decide to do in life
DON'T FUCKIN DO THIS 🚫"

That hook at the end is grounded. Besides allowing to pull the man away from accidental contact, the grounding will prevent the man from becoming part of the path. It is done correctly.

Energizing those high voltage circuits is crazy stuff to watch! It is no joke dangerous, an arc flash can reach temps of 36, 000 degrees ! I remember a famous story in our safety training about a guy who was testing circuits with the incorrect rated testing equipment and literally blew his clothing, skin and flesh off his body ! He wandered around the plant leaving a bloody trail and finally collapsed and died when he got to the exit door ! It’s not a job for people who have ADD .

That protective suit won't save your life, but it will give you an open casket if something does happen. God bless electricians.

Some of this work just can't be done safely... so you do it as safely as you possibly can. Brave SOBs every one.

A power station charge engineer was badly hurt when a 3, 300 volt breaker closed onto an earthed circuit. The half ton breaker was blown out of its cubicle. He only survived because he had a habit of standing to one side. Fire safety gear would have saved him from near death.

The giant hook around the I've wondered why they aren't more prevalent among these kinds of jobs in the first place. Simple and effective life saving technique.
