I wish there was someone like you guys to learn from when I was a pup. I had to learn via the school of hard knocks - very expensive and painful schooling. If you didn't listen you had to feel and I can still feel some of those hard learned lessons yet today.

The other day, I spent six hours in an old Cat 963B track loader, about only my third time in a front end loader type vehicle and the first where I moved substantial amounts of dirt, and concrete remnants. This tip is 100% and I learned it myself due to initial poor performance in bucket filling. Nice to see it here from the different angles. Great video.

Another helpful tip to go along with this video, I believe not many people give thought to snapping the bucket when its full. In doing that it levels the material better and excess falls at the pile, saving you cleanup on the site or in the street. Also after the bucket is full in my experience, it has been a better practice to not bring the bucket down to a low position. Keeping the bucket a little higher keeps the material from spills due to sudden stops or uneven ground. Operating machines in NYC those 2 moves save alot of cleanup time when sudden stops and uneven surfaces are a constant issue.

This has been so much helpful. I'm a beginner and i was making the same mistake where i curl the Bucket in first before raising the boom while getting the scuping the pile causing the front wheels to spin or lift so now i'm getting better and better each day.

The main key is to hit the pile in second gear drop down to first start your lift and curl and continue moving forward.

It is nearly 60 years since I learned to drive a wheel loader, but although machines are more sophisticated now, the process has not changed significantly. I’ve watched many training videos and not seen any that would completely fill the bucket every time regardless of the type of material.
To get a full bucket easily, I was taught to drive into the pile until I felt resistance and then lock the boom lever back, and immediately keep the bucket lever moving, first up and then down and up and down while the boom is slowly lifting and the machine is creeping forward. Then when you curl the bucket back, you see material trickle over the back right across the top.
It is similar to using a hand shovel in hard material where you have to rock the shovel up and down to overcome resistance.

Heh, I learned this when I was 13 years old in 1973. You should do one on bobcats. You're never to old to brush up on this stuff. Thumbs up to you sir.

In 1984 I had a Hanomag 44c and it had 2 green lights on the dash, if the two lights were out the bucket was level. Hanomag were years ahead of everyone else at that time.

When loading a more coarse material such as large rocks. I find it best to start in second gear with the bucket to the ground, push into the pile, drop to first gear, hold down the gas and lift the arm at the same time as you curl the bucket. The arm won't lift on its own but when the bucket is curled it will. Once it lifts a little, keep pulling it up and curl the bucket back out as you hold the brake. This will allow the blade to dig further into the pile. Keep repeating until you're at the top of the pile and curl your bucket all the way back. Bring the arm down and back out a little. Then curl out the bucket just a little, back up, and slam the break at the same time you curl the bucket back fast. This will set everything in the bucket and let the excess fall off. It's the best way I've found to go about a very rocky material
