Now that the iPhone 5 is out of warranty, it is time to either fork over hundreds of dollars for Apple to fix it, or save hundreds of dollars and do it yourself. It doesn't take much time and is very inexpensive. There are about 11 screws that need removing on your way to the camera, so make sure to keep them all organized.

This video is great for the people who have specks in their camera that wont come off, or for people whose cameras are just not working anymore.

Thank you for posting this video! I just completed the repair in a little over an hour. I was one of the people with an iPhone 5 whose camera decided to stop working without warning. I didn't need to remove my battery to do the repair. I feel this puts unnecessary strain on the phone and you risk damaging something. Disconnecting the cable is all I needed to do. I had no problem removing the two "grounding screws" with the battery in place. Thanks again!

Thank you dude bro! I fixed my wife's camera by following your instructions to get to the camera and cleaning it out and jiggling it a bit and putting it back together. Now we can continue to cling to what has become old technology.

Hi Jerry, great tutorial! It took me an hour to complete my camera replacement, following your video step by step. It went flawlessly and everything worked perfectly once I started my phone back up after completion of the job so thank you very much for this video tutorial, it was essential for me to watch in order to replace my rear camera!

And by the way, I don't know what other peoples' reasons are for replacing their cameras but I had originally purchased a replacement due to the fact that I had two specks of dust that were lodged INSIDE the camera lens, thus creating the purple speck syndrome. But before I could replace the camera to fix that issue, my camera actually died on me several days ago! It wouldn't show anything anymore and I even took it to the Apple store, had them reinstall the factory software, still didn't work and we knew it was then bad hardware and sure enough, after replacing the old camera with the new, it now works like a charm!

Thanks again, Jerry!

Thanks!!! It realy did work. One important NOTE! There is a small part of the flash that you replace to the new camera if your new camera don't have.

2:20 I broke one of the ribbons and the phone wouldn't turn on so I brought some off the internet I put them in and my phone still won't turn on, I've noticed on the replacement one I received, one of them don't have a black sponge/sticker on it. What do it do? I made sure everything was put back to place. Is it because of one of the ribbons not having that black thing on it? Please help

I accidentally broke the 2 cables connecting the logic board to the grounding screws. Will this affect anything? I tried doing some research on google and so far it's given me no luck. Given by the name of the screws, my only concern is being electrocuted while handling my phone.

Thanks for the great video.      Did you BREAK one of the brackets? The video at 3:07 shows a screw hole kind of stuff lying on the right. Please do reply, coz m afraid of breaking stuff in my phone. I have previously replaced screens on my friends iPhone 4 and 4s, which are extremely difficult to do coz the screen is the last component to be removed unlike on iPhone 5 the screen is removed so early. Anyways, the parts were too small and tend to break upon force and sometimes the lego type connectors tend not to fit as correctly as they were originally. Also it would be kind of you if could share if there is a way to find out if the replacement camera sold online are genuine. Coz once the screen i bought for the iPhone 4 was all bluish and a cheap resolution one.

Great video! I had to swap the rectangular piece around the old flash onto the new one for it to fit and stay in place.

I noticed the eyelet for the Logic board ground was detached laying on the table after the logic board was removed. I had the same thing happen. Does the phone work without the ground? Is that repairable? Does it affect any functionality that you're aware of?

Thank you for this. Just replaced mine. Re assembly would have been really good but this video was helpful anyway. Liked.

Ok I have completed the camera replacement. This is a great video for intermediate skills. I really likes that he stayed on task throughout. I wish the video was a little clearer as it was difficult to identify the screws, albeit they will just fit in their spaces. There are some important little details that he leaves out which people with this kind of tech experience will know. The first, he is seen without rubber gloves or grounding strap. A static spark which occurs all the time can damage a component i.e., ic, transistor etc and you may not notice until after you reinstall and find the white bars at the top of the screen. Second, take his advice and remove the sim chip in the beginning of the process - this warning comes in the middle of the video. Third, you will be tempted to us canned air to blow out the dust and crude. Use a photographers blub instead. The most deadly part of the process is reinstalling the battery and any clips that come after this. Once the battery is installed current may be traveling through some circuits. You could short a connection without knowing. Oh and in the video he gives a clear warning regarding the screen removal heed this advice as if you try to lift the screen out you are very likely to damage the screen. Putting the iPhone back together is more tricky that the take down, Kind of like rock climbing up is always easier that coming down. He gives great advice about keeping the parts in an order that you will be able to recognize. Smart phone repair makes a plastic kit that shows the actual parts in the order that he shows. You can easily make your own. Thanks again Jerry for this great video.
