omg I legit just rewatched the show and It had the alternate ending and I thought I was going mad. I legit remember him blowing up himself. Then in the one I just watched he left with Anna. I thought I was going crazzzy. Good to see that there are two ending and I'm not mad.

Original ending, he sacrificed himself for the cure. Alternative ending, he gave up his cure to save himself and please the zombie whilst still possessing the knowledge for the cure. Original has more of a realist approach but we all like to see the winner win

not enough people are understanding the point of the alternate ending, and are just focusing on neville surviving or not surviving and the cure. the alternate ending is supposed to be focusing on the infected. neville realizes that they aren’t just monsters, and are intelligent and care about each other. he realizes that he’s a monster in their eyes, like the boogeyman. a legend. so he decides to stop working on the cure. he doesn’t want to be a monster anymore. he returns the alpha’s mate, and instead of killing neville, the alpha spares him, showing thankfulness.

I like the alternative ending because unlike what we expect to where Will’s character is a legend for “curing” humans. He’s become a legend to the crawlers for kidnapping and killing them, like a monster from a fairytale.

Just watched the movie. It had the alternate ending. I prefer it. It makes it far more clear that there is an alpha. And also gives the darkseekers a shred of humanity. We see earlier that they are capable of making a trap. But with the alternate ending, we see that the alpha wants his mate back. And that's why they're at his home. Smearing the butterfly was more believable to me than the cracks randomly forming a butterfly. People saying the original ending makes more sense for the title. But you don't have to die to be a legend. And he would still die later as civilization rebuilds itself. Also, you can't tell me that he wouldn't leave the city after his home was destroyed. His whole reason for transmitting the radio signals was that he had food, shelter, safety. He doesn't anymore. He also found the cure, so there was no reason to stay at ground zero. It just doesn't fit with me that he would kill himself just to take out the alpha and the 3 or 4 other darkseekers in the room.

Both ending are good. The alter one let us know the reason why the darkseekers go after them.
The original ending is a more about the main character and the alter ending is more about darkseekers

I believed and still do, it was because he wanted to die. He lost his wife and kid and probably felt he was partly to blame for it. The only family member he had left was the dog who he had kill with his own hands because it turned. We can see earlier in the film he was talking to mannequins to try and keep some sense of sanity that was barely hanging on by that point. Only saved by the dog and his continuous work. He saw an opportunity to have someone continue his work once he found the cure, but no longer had the will to keep living without his family and wanted to be with them again.

Unpopular opinion: both endings are equally as good as the other and both tie up the story in really good ways…great thing about it is that you can choose which one you want to believe is the true ending. Not many movies can do that and do it well. It’s simply why I think this movie stands out and is definitely worth the watch.

I still cannot stop replaying the scene where the alpha starts to make cracks on the glass. The sick satisfaction in his eyes of 'you're f*cked once I get my hands on you'. And the despair in Neville's eyes. Just incredible.

For the people wondering why he didnt leave with them, he wanted to die, he wanted to be with his family, what he needed to do was done he created the cure.

When I first watched the movie it had the Alternative ending and I loved it. It’s what made me love the movie to be honest. Ig I just loved the idea that dark beings can have hearts too. Even if it’s unrealistic to some ppl. I just rewatched the movie again, just waiting for the ending in joy, and then I get THE ORIGINAL ENDING WHERE HE SACRIFICES HIMSELF😭

The alternate (good) ending showed more accurately how Neville forgot the one thing a good doctor always remembers: You always must be kind to your patients so they know you do not mean to hurt them, but want to help them get better. Neville wanted the cure no matter what he put the test subjects through.
