I like starting at the tip, and then working down the the base, and then back up to the tip, then base, and so on.

Im not a professional plumber, but this is how I thought to do it, because working in the automotive industry, I was always particular to begin all threaded nuts properly, so seeing the first thread was always key. I really enjoy your videos Sir and I’m always telling others to view your channel. Wish you well, Roger. Cheers from 🇨🇦

I installed a high pressure air line supply hose with stainless steel fittings. The instructions stated to use Teflon tape then apply liquid thread sealant. No leaks with 150 psi. I always use that same approach now any time I use Teflon tape.

Thats not a coupling that he put on it...that is a thread protector used on pipes so threads dont get damaged during shipping

Yes. We use tape and dope. We also leave the first thread bare, or you cut off a string to lodge into something downstream.

I am a DOT gas pipeline inspector...
I would fail you on any inspection because by requirements you are to ONLY follow the manufacturer PROCEDURE.
Example is blue monster tape. It states DO NOT USE WITH PIPE SEALANT. Rector seal #5 states DO NOT USE WITH ANY Pipe TAPE.
I have found thousands of leaks over my career and MOST of them are from plumbers NOT following the manufacturer procedures.

That coupling looks like a thread protector. Its probably why you could screw it so far by hand.

many people don't know to take with the thread. Tape the same was your spinning the fastener

Use Loctite 55 and have an actual seal without keeping tension and having the tape slide off.

That's not a 3/4" coupling, it's a thread protector, thread protectors are not tapered that's why you were able to thread it almost all the way by hand

How much Temperature does teflon tape sustains

Fitting should screw on 3 1/2 turns by hand…then a final tightening with a wrench. Stainless pipe we always used tape and some pecker snot on top…especially a water line. Also left first two threads bare as they don’t do the sealing anyways. Also no lead based snot on hydraulics…either tape or Teflon sealant….or both t&t.

Nice shipping coupling Richard those are just to keep the threads from getting damaged in the shipping process they leak like sivs

Start at the tip, leave the bottom two threads untaped, wrap up and leave a tail. Once the connections done, pull on the tail and it will be a clean cut at the hub of the fitting.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Question: do you recommend using both pipe dope and yellow tape when working with black (gas) pipe?

Home handyman here: did against the grain one time... Taught me one thing: get a pro to double check my work when I turn things on.
