Why we should take laughter more seriously | Sophie Scott | TEDxExeter

From children to world leaders, laughter plays an important role in social interaction. But why do we laugh, what effect can it have, and what are the risks when it goes wrong? Professor Sophie Scott draws on her research in neuroscience to explain why laughter is an important social skill that deserves to be taken seriously.

At TEDxExeter 2018 we focussed on making connections - and building bridges. Our speakers challenged us to reflect on how, in this interconnected, interdependent world, global issues affect all of our lives, and our actions affect others. In these turbulent times of shock political outcomes, “fake news”, data breaches, war, mass migration, rapid technological progress and climate change we believe that ideas have the power to change attitudes, lives, and ultimately, the world.

Laughter is an African motto despite the challenges that most people in Africa face you'll find them laughing often so that's the only reason we don't loose hope

2:27 Boris says: "Так вот, не в первый раз я вам говорю, что вы провалились". It literally translates as "This is not the first time I tell you that you have failed". The interpreter and subtitles are wrong.

I loved this TED talk a lot for a lot of reasons, but one basic reason was that it didn’t have the typical absurd cadence of a TED talk where the person is trying to be profound.

Just Boris Yeltsin was as always drunk and talked nonsense. It was simply impossible not to lough in such a rediculous and, at the same time, hilarious situation.

Lost me at war in former Yugoslavia, didn't want to go any further. Bill Clinton's war and all of the propaganda and hate is no joke.

I could have that lady at her natural weight in 6 months. She's had too much processed sugars and processed foods, but there are other foods, too, that contribute. The main culprit is sugar and processed foods. Processed foods are full of processed sugar.
