Tears For Fears - Head Over Heels - Music Video Commentary

Curt and Roland react to “Head Over Heels” to celebrate the single’s 37th anniversary. In 1985, the song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at #3 and since then has been featured in movies like Donnie Darko (2001) and most recently the 2022 Super Bowl Half Time Show.

Wonderful. Surprised to hear this song wasn't as huge a hit in the UK as it was in the States. I was in college in upstate New York taking radio broadcasting when this album came out, and it was a phenomenon throughout the country and in very heavy rotation on the college radio station, and pretty much every rock and pop station. The elderly lady who cleaned the student center adjacent to the radio station would come in and request I play Shout every night. She was in her 60s and absolutely adored that track.

It's a wonderful song. The video is funny. It is strange, but not really stranger than any of the other "concept" videos of the 80s. It was good you could have fun with it. I loved Ian's parts in the video. I get to see you in concert Friday in Indianapolis! I've only waited 35 years!

This song resounded so much with me as a young man - I would listen to it and it felt like Roland was singing about my life, I had no confidence, was extremely shy around girls and felt like I would never achieve what I wanted for in life. Here I am at 49 with all I have ever dreamed of, thank you TFF.

LOVE this song & Video. Shot in 1985 in Toronto while TFF did 2 amazing shows at Massey Hall, both of which we saw. We found them after at their hotel bar and had a lovely chat with them about Canada's chances at World Cup Soccer in Mexico. Those were the days. Lifetime fans. xoxo
