This video is about the Helicon.
This helicon belongs to my friend and it is for sale for $1,500 USD (plus shipping). If you are interested, email me or leave a comment and I will have my friend contact you.

Do you want to leave a tip so Art can continue to make more quality videos?

Sousa wanted tuba sound to go up, not forward. that's why the first Sousaphones (not designed by him) pointed up. They called them raincatchers. Very nice horn, and rare.

I heard that helicon are still used for horse-mounted bands since the wind applies les force to a smaller bell...

What an interesting antique instrument. And seemingly in excellent condition. It's interesting that the tubing isn't perfectly smooth as in modern instruments. While this could be damage over the years, I more suspect it is the result of whatever techniques they used to make it.

It is still used in Balkan folk brass bands.

Do the springs of the left hand of the saxophone have a specific name?

If one is playing in a group in close quarters, the bell of the helicon may be aimed at the ear of a person on the player's left side.

There are many videos put out by members of the Christian Congregation of Brazil (CCB), and in a few of them a helicon can be seen, along with more "typical" tubas.
