I watched this video and referenced it as I was making stringers for my stairs. They turned out perfect. Thank you

I watched many confusing videos after I finally found yours. Best explanation ever. Thank you 👌

Good tip showing the use of a hand saw to make those clean inside cuts

First time cutting stringers and they came out great with your instruction. Thank you.

If you cut one more rise and run and notch so it continues into the landing you will not need the hardware. Simply nail to joist or to block. Stairs will cantilever and give better support. Nice job but I would have explained that I had a piece of the decking on deck when I took the measurement finish deck to landing. Just seeing it there could be missed. Carpenter for 52 years here cut a few, Donnas husband Greg

Extra Tip: If you dont know how many steps to use then use a common riser height such as 7 or 8 inches. Divide your total rise by 7 or 8 and you'll get a number for the number of steps. You may get a number with a fraction, if so then you'll round that number up. You'll now divide the total rise by your new number of steps to get a new riser height for each step. (If your new riser height seems to look too short of a step then use 7, if it's too high of a step then use 8 as your common riser height)

A quarter inch difference in individual stair height will create a three quarter discrepancy in overall height. Measure twice.

One of the most complicated stair explanations I’ve seen ——

I like what you showed and described about basic stair stringers. I have a couple of questions...
1. Is it important to factor in the tread nose?
2. When you mentioned the "front" of the stringer does that include the thickness dimension of the riser from the landing to the underside of the tread?
3. What hanger device did you use to attach the stringer to the rim joist?
Thanks

Distracting music but good info, thanks!

He said his treads will be about 11”, his schematic showed a 10 7/8” riser cut, and he marked a 10 3/4” cut on his stringer. Try that with a stringer that is carrying many stairs and see what happens to your run.

Awesome. My deck happens to be this exact hight 😂

First thing to check is that the edges (or lines you are measuring to) on the lumber for the stringers are straight.

Excellent demonstration. One suggestion for creating a video. Kill the music please. It's distracting to many viewers.

how do you know where to make the first mark and start measuring on your stringer?

When you initially divided the rise you came up with 6 5/8th inches and when you were measuring it out, you were measuring 6 7/8ths. And the music was too loud for a teaching video.

You inspired me to build my shed. Unfortunately I ordered my lumber from Lowes and got complete junk. They failed to pick it up as well. My dream is mostly ruined but I will try and salvage what I have. I'm going to Home Depot for future lumber.

You should of shown how you added more backing for the stringers to be secured to!!
