Why is it time to BUY or Wait for a 2019 Subaru WRX? - Raiti's Rides

The 2019 Subaru WRX is here and still features a 2.0L flat-four direct injected, turbocharged engine putting 268HP, mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox, and featuring that famous Subaru AWD! It is still a performance bargain, or should you wait for the redesign?

The Limited WRX trim has LED headlights & fog lights, so it's not just the STI that has those.

Also, it's very silly to assume subaru is going to quickly ditch the FA20DIT motor after only 1 wrx generation (as I've seen in comments). Subaru knows that while small, the enthusiast community is integral to their success. They're going to continue with a WRX & WRXs STi. They'd be throwing lots of money away to not do so.

Also a new sub! I'm picking up my premium '19 Lapis Blue WRX this tuesday! I'm STOKED!! (I originally wanted WR Blue, but after watching this video the Lapis has really grown on me!)

I just bought one last week, 2019 WRX Premium in Lapis Blue, with STI wheels and performance package. The performance and the tech is simply awesome. I love how it get peak torque at 2500 rpm. It just grips the road. Cornering is so fun. The only downside, I got pulled over by a cop and got my first speeding ticket ever in 18 years of driving. Just over 17 km/h the speed limit on a 110km/h expressway! There must be something about the WRX and those cops, grrrr! I have to watch it now so I downloaded the TomTom Speed Cameras App and it is great so far. Works well with the WRX TomTom Nav system. :-)

Lapis blue is gorgeous. 2016 I was shopping for a WRX. Salesman called me up said he had an STI in lapis blue. I didn’t know what the color was at the time so I said I’d pop down to see it. He said he was off in ten minutes so I said I’d come down the next day. If I’d had seen it in that color I would have bought an STI when I was just going for a WRX because of the dollars. Got a white WRX, 2 years later sold that and got a Focus RS. I hope that Subaru does some lame upgrade and adds 5 more horsepower or I’ll be trading in my RS. 😂😂😂 2020 is Subaru’s year of reckoning. They need to hit it out of the ballpark or they’ll be dissed and dismissed by enthusiasts. Subaru step up or give up.

I just got a 2019 WRX and this guy's assessment is spot on. The only thing he may have missed (maybe because it wasn't implemented by Subaru) is that the center console arm rest lifts up to be a bit higher. I just discovered it myself when I was putting stuff in the console.

I test drove one today because of this video. I currently own a 2013 srt8 and I will say this is a fund car especially for the price! car has a nice punch when you hit it. Car has plenty of power for what it is. I haven't driven a sit yet but I'm really considering getting one of these. I love the steering wheel and the interior is nice!

I just converted from my 2017 Honda accord sport to the 2019 wrx premium in Lapis blue pearl. I'm going to miss my accord since it was my first car but I've been enjoying this thing so much.. It puts a smile on my face everytime haha

Totally agree with you had the pleasure of driving the 2016 model, always thought that the wheels needed to be bigger, just didn't look right. Love the rear of this car!!
Nice intro to your vid, love what you did!! 💪

I just bought a 2019 WRX and I love it. I upgraded from a 2017 WRX. One major thing I noticed is the clutch is much lighter. And the factory tune is more linear. I had to relearn how to drive the car. Also the sound system is way better, it has a lot of clarity and bass. I got the premium trim which came with the 7" infotainment screen and STI short throw shifter. I wanted to wait for the redesign, but I was told they are most likely going to release late next year like the 4th quarter, instead of the usual June release date.

I just bought a 2019 STI a month ago in Lapis Blue.I was never a big fan of the color until I bought the 2019 STI.I was looking for a color that would go with the neon green calipers and the Lapis Blue goes great!

It’s good to know that I can still be happy with my 2017 WRX with pioneer CarPlay head unit, and not feel the need to upgrade model years. It would be helpful for you to mention the difference in ride quality and noise in the cabin between the WRX and the STI, because the STI is much noisier with exhaust drone. I had a 2004 STI that was not as obnoxiously noisy as the 2017, and that plus the improved gas mileage of the FA20 won me over.

I'm waiting for 2020. As it stands right now I'm leaning toward a WRX Limited, just for the reliability of the FA20. However, if Subaru manages to update the STI with the FA platform, I may shoot for that.

It wouldn’t be a shocker if the new WRX is revealed in the LA auto show, I can’t wait, hope the new WRX is not “infected” by CVT, the manual transmission should be easier to use and if Subaru is going to offer an automatic they need to do dual clutch

Thanks for another great review! If you’ve ever got extra time on your hands, I would love to see a side-by-side comparison of the four 2019 WRX trim levels: base, premium, premium w/ sport package, & limited.
