Driving home from work at 5pm and it’s already dark out just sucks.

I don’t care which one we go to. Let’s just pick one and stick with it. If dark mornings are a problem, let the schools and businesses change their start times and that’ll resolve the problem. What we don’t need is giving Congress any reason to hesitate or further debate this bill.

Frankly, when I end my day (in a building without a lot of windows) and go outside at 4pm and it's pitch black it's definitely not good for my mental health

Finishing work at 5pm in complete darkness is not only extremely depressing, it's impossible to get anything done outside during the week. We need light time in the evening.

I'm just here to compliment the skilful loop edit even though I really really really hate shorts and loops.

The best reason to stay on permanent Standard time, is because standard is the actual time. At 12:00 noon with Standard time the Sun should be at or near it's zenith.

Personally I'm coming around to the position that it doesn't matter which we do, in the long term work schedules and social norms will likely adapt so that we go in/wake up at the same time regardless of what the clock says. What's important is that we just stop switching, so we stop screwing with our bodies and those norms have a chance to set in

That's great in southern states but when it gets dark at 5-6pm it makes it extremely hard to get things done after work so I'd rather wake up in darkness and have light to be able to get things done after work.

I used to start work at 6am (night time) and now I start at 9 ( I wake up with day light already) and it had massive difference on me, I feel much better and with more energy

As a programmer, I definitely reject permanent DST. See the Tom Scott/Computerphile video on timezones to learn what an absolute mess that is already. If North America switches to permanent DST, we're permanently out of sync with the rest of the standard timed world, which will wreak havoc with billing, shipping, and meeting schedules for months at least, on top of all the health concerns you mention.

Sure we get more light after work to enjoy time outside, but the real issue is not leaving work at a healthy time in the first place and getting to spend the time outside on a natural schedule.

I agree with you. All summer long I can't sleep. Who needs it to be light until 10:30pm??? Once the clocks go back in fall, my anxiety is less and I can sleep better.

I like to think you are Hank Green's brother. You guys have the same kind of positive energy. Thanks for doing this..

I'd rather more daylight at the end of the day so when I get home from work it doesn't feel like the day is over.

Leave time alone. In places where the heat is intense, it is a relief when the sun goes down. To drag it on an hour is horrible. Summers in the Europe and the UK have very long days. They don’t need it! Boy does it mess with my mind and body when the clocks go forward.

Back in the seventies they tried extending DST and a lot of kids were run over while being dropped off at school in the dark.

I get the sentiment, bit with the 8 hour work days coming home when it's 5 and dark outside, or only having light for an hour, makes things like enjoying the outdoors after work with family more difficult. Right now it gets dark at 5:20 and it feels awful mentally.

I have get up at 6 am s every morning which is in the middle night and my body has never adjusted. Anytime I get the opportunity to sleep in my body naturally wakes up with the sun

The Monday in the spring when we lose an hour there is a 24% increase in heart attacks among a 6% increase in fatal car accidents happen EVERY YEAR, you would think off those statistics alone we would change it 😭 🤷🏼‍♀️

Moral of the story:
Whether it's standard or daylight, as long as I don't have to struggle with my clock twice a year I'm all for it.

Our ancestors didn’t pretend to change time twice a year they just went with the time, I see no reason why we should pretend to.
