From what I understand, the Harper stash deals Thunder damage when you interact with it

Since it deals Thunder in an AoE, you can sit inside of a Silence, which nullifies thunder damage, and simply spam interact with it to keep triggering the aoe.

According to the rules for D&D 5e, this isn't a glitch. It's actually exactly the way the rules are supposed to function. That said, a DM would probably veto you rapidly opening and closing a chest of that size during combat, but never the less, it works well here.

Dammit! They fixed it too soon. I was going to use this glitch to kill Raphael at Baldur's Gate in act 3 to see how it would bork the game 😂

So wooden chest is secretly a functioning vibrator of Faerun but within a silencing sphere there's no side effect and only pleasure.

Can confirm that it has been patched. Does not trip if locked and only does dmg once then you can access the loot after that.
