Old Mechanic Trick for Locking Pliers

I’ve seen a lot of viral videos showing people modifying, grinding, welding and whatever to achieve the same result that another pair of locking pliers already provides…grip and leverage! Just use two pair if you need to tighten your vice grips more than hand tight.

Or heres an ideas unlock your vice grips to take the tension off of it, then give it a half turn to a full turn or whatever, and then relock the vice grips

Tightening it while clamped defeats the entire purpose of the tool

The answer is **always** more vice grips

“Just grab another pair”, and soon enough, you’ll still have a pair. One will work fine. But the other one, will have a distorted housing, and/or a stripped out tension screw.

Uh ... hate to break it to you, but... you're doing it wrong.
You tighten the knob by hand before you clamp it down.
If you need to adjust it, you un-clamp it first.
No other tools required.

As I’ve gotten older my grip strength has weakened so I generally use another vice grip like you demonstrated. I’m not big on gimmicks or gadgets.

Reminds me of the time Hank Hill used a tiny WD40 can to unstick a regular can of WD40

The only tool that should come with a label that says “If you’re using this, you’re doing something wrong”

If you get the actual vice grips brand there is a hex key on there

If your tool can't be tightened anymore, it's because it wasn't meant to be tightened anymore, which means you're using the wrong tool, go get the right one.

This was my favourite tool for a while. I only ever need a second pair of vice grips to undo the first pair if I set it too tight. Never to turn the adjustment knob. That is not how the tool was designed to be used.

Tell me you don’t know how to use a vice grip without saying you don’t know how to use a vice grip:

Bru using it properly and you don't need anything to give that extra twist. Set it properly and give it a good squeeze is all that's needed 😂

As a commercial carpenter who uses metal to metal clamps daily. Weld yourself a washer to the end of that piece and it'll give you something to easily grip and adjust as needed

Here is an idea: use the tool as designed so that injuries to you and harm to work piece and tools does not occur.

As an ironworker, welding a washer to it allows you to use your spud wrench as the tightening tool. Less tools equals less weight, helps you stay out of the hole when climbing or walking on beams.
