The United States is the single biggest military spender in the world.
U.S. military spending, traditionally defined, was $730 billion in 2019. the militarized budget amounted to 64.5 percent of discretionary spending.

Studies that seek to define a “national security” budget – which includes the military, and also veterans’ affairs, homeland security, and similar expenses – can easily arrive at estimates approaching or exceeding $1 trillion per year.

Conversely Welfare programs spent $380 billion in fiscal year 2020.  The welfare budget also includes the Medicaid Program which is a program for health care for low-income Americans.
This represents 18% of the spending in the entire federal government. 
Oh and don't forget government welfare to the corporations.
The Cato Institute estimates that the U.S. federal government spends $100 billion a year on corporate welfare.
Bottonline the U.S. spends more on Defense and the Rich than on the citizens that labor for them.

It actually cost less to do the right thing. More judges, social workers and processors and less police and border patrol. When they put the children in caged areas for $750 a day. You could put four families in a holiday inn one room for about $90.00
