Take just what you need to enjoy the outdoors, leave the kitchen sink and fridge at home. If you have a dog, he will no doubt love it out there with you. Thank you for a great video, please keep them coming. People like you and Shawn Kelly make learning about the outdoors so much fun and easy.

Exactly, you don't need all the doodads, gadgets and a pack full of Crap. Unfortunately these lines have become blurred by some YouTubers. Time To bring back the Basics. Outstanding Video. Maybe we can do a collaboration in the future.

People seem to forget that when Kepheart et al were doing their thing, it wasn't called "primitive" camping or "low-tech" camping. It was just...camping. In general, they took the best gear they could get, food included. The naturalist movment was about getting close to nature, not a grave. Great video, Dave.

Love the simplicity. Also, you hit it on the head about the food. Most people don't know, that trappers/pioneers stoped in towns, trading post to get staples and supplies to supplement their food resources before heading out into the woods/back country.

As you said, no one can truly live off the land anymore. Even people of 150 years ago had to come in to town to get supplies.
Thanks so much for your wisdom of being handy.

Nice and easy peazy...no need to over think and complicate matters...but then some folks are just built that way. Thanks David!

Great old school style video Dave. Little solo trips like that are some of my best times in the woods..and best times period.

I thought I was the only guy that used an Otter Sled on dry ground. I use mine every spring to haul out beaver with or without snow. Thanks Dave.

Outstanding video. I was out camping in the Utah canyons, several campers had standard set ups except one old dude whos basha was set up differently, so I asked him why. He said he'd been camping the canyons for years and that the canyons affected the way the storms came in. I set my camp like his and when the storm came in he and I were the only ones dry!! Local intel is worth more than any book.

i agree with you watch the weather patterns in your area..in my deep south the rain comes from west / south west/south...the cold wind of winter is from north/north west/or due west...so i usually face my shelters east /north east/south east depending on the expected conditions..listen the the old wisdom of the old woodsmen....but apply it with the wisdom of your own exp....good to see a camping video sir..safe journeys
