What are the best practices for law enforcement given what we know now about COVID-19? How can we assure the sanitizing solutions we are making will be as effective as possible? Lets look at what the CDC and health care workers are recommending and apply it to the equipment and resources we have availablquote.

I’m lucky where I am, we have a box of dust masks in the boss’s office so we can ask someone to bring one down when we know we’re dealing with someone who has the virus...

On this note, from my own experience, it’s not the ‘confirmed’ case that will get you sick with this. It’s the ‘we don’t think he had it’ but he actually did. Treat everything and everyone as if they are sick.

07:50 - yes, washing hands or sanitizing them is very important. However, don't forget that both dry out your skin. Thus, it is equally important to use HAND LOTION multiple times a day because viruses and bacteria can penetrate dry and injured skin.

Stay safe out there. It has become increasingly challenging to deal with the public with this pandemic going on. Situational awareness is key, have to watch and listen to what is going on around you as you don't want to touch the wrong thing or walk past someone coughing up a lung.

I’m essential. I help facilitate getting your 90% alcohol to the liquor stores. That and a whole bunch of wine for the people stuck in their house ;) Maybe not as essential as yourself but happy we are still fully operational. Could barter for that sick mask!

Very important to note - the masks with the exhaust vent on them are NOT filtering any air you breathe out- the vent lets it all out unfiltered. Those masks will protect you but will not protect others any better than just a plain cloth or paper mask, maybe even worse.


Note for glasses users, do NOT use alcohol on your glasses - many glasses have coatings that are dissolved by alcohol. Use soap and water on your glasses.

Hydrogen peroxide is another alternative to alcohol for disinfecting surfaces. however make sure to test it on the things you want to sanitize first - peroxide can bleach and discolor things, especially cloth.

Great video Tommy. Gas masks are awesome but each filter usually is only supposed to last 8 hours, based on what I"ve read. At $40 bucks a pop you need to have access to the police depts stash, no way anyone can afford to use these a lot.

If it has a NIOSH rating it's not a mask, it's a respirator. It's important to recognize the difference. Respirators protect you, masks protect others from you, ventilators breath for you.

All officers in my city are standard issued the black, rubber gas mask (C50). They use them instead of n95s.

06:00 - I would never spray down electronics again. It has ruined too much of my hardware. Thus, I only spray on a CLOTH and them wipe down my stuff.

Hey tommy, great presentation; as all ways. I again the gas mask is far better than re-using an N-95 mask. Are worried about the Alcohol breaking down the rubber, and seals in the gas mask? I realize it is the most effective tool against droplet containimation, but even effective tools can fail if not maintained properly. At the end of the day though, you got to do the best with what you have st hand... Stay safe, stay healthy, Tommy.
