Indonesia's President Joko Widodo wants to cement his legacy with this megaproject of moving the country's capital to Nusantara from Jakarta.

The capital of the Nusantara is the dream of the people of the Nusantara in the past..
The people of the Nusantara wanted to create a State and in the end they managed to establish a State that is now called Indonesia and another dream which is the capital of the Nusantara.

So it's not new, but dreams from the past and new can be realized for this millennial. 😢

every Indonesian ambitious projects are going to turned into 'white elephants' because of its ridiculousness. This project did (*)not(*) do any viability and sustainability research before starting. The second reason is, the Indo gov were hoping for private investment from corporations and neigboring and friendly countries, and they have yet to recieve any support of funding from these investors

It's funny to hear how western news media contents explained, always so western geopolitic negatively and inaccurate assessment. What I want to say in a "super simple" fact statement here, this project estimate budget projection of USD 35B overall consists of 5 phases until in 2045 targeted this new capital city all completed. Even though the project that has almost been completed is only the core government zone 40% part of phase 1 whose construction is almost complete around 96% late this August 2024. The core government zone is only government buildings, and supporting utilities such as power plants, road & tram networks, wires networks, telecomunication networks, water supply, public areas, as supporters of this zone which does use the budget from the country itself which totals 20% of the total USD 35B, so around USD 6-7B. So far the progress from the scratch as productive forestst have spent USD 2.7B which is used to build 96% of the work on this core government zone. Although there was a budget overrun of USD 0.8M in the previous USD 2.7B. So, what is the obstacle? Foreign investment? Phase 1 indeed has no opportunities or openings for foreign investment, even in Phase 2 only a small portion of around 35%, the rest from domestic private investors. Very funny for example if our President Palace or National Defences infrastructures and building base funded by foreign investors 😄. That's why there are own state budget and fund. Only Phase 3-5 which is projected to start in the next 3-5 years will involve more foreign investors according to their proportions. So, it is clear that there are no foreign investors currently until the next 3-5 years who have invested, only a few LOIs have been signed, no funds have been disbursed because it has not started. I hope that foreign country content is more accurate and does not spread the tendency of fake news.
