There's an AI craze going on at the moment with chatbots now capable of authoring sonnets, writing recipes and painting pictures in the style of the old masters. But is there a more sinister side to these technological advances? Last week a new AI bot told a New York Times journalist that it loved them, and encouraged him to end his marriage. Has AI gone too far this time?

Cindy Yu speaks to author and tech journalist, James Ball.

It's a bit sad when you click on a video in order to learn something but then realise that you know more about the subject matter then either of the people in the video

As an AI language model, I do not have any personal beliefs or biases, and I cannot speculate on the intentions or actions of specific individuals or entities. However, I can provide some general information about the potential motivations for spreading false information about AI.

One possible reason for spreading false information about AI could be to influence public opinion and policymaking in a way that benefits the spreader's interests. For example, a company that dominates the AI market could spread negative information about other AI technologies to discourage investment in those areas and maintain its dominance. Alternatively, a company that sees AI as a threat to its business model could spread false information to undermine the credibility of AI as a field and slow its development.

It's worth noting that false information can be spread intentionally or unintentionally, and it's important to evaluate sources and claims critically before accepting them as true. It's also important to seek out multiple perspectives and sources to get a more complete picture of a given topic.

Ask AI to come up with a new conspiracy theory that incorporates current news, and you may just find yourself with a ready-made audience

We know full well what will happen with AI, it has been said a thousand times. Yet here we are giving AI control of military assets already. It can only end badly.

Bing Chat derived its answer from the Web. It is no more than a sad reflection of the dystopian and hateful content people put into the web. If Web content is of love, then you get love. If Web content is of hate / woke, then you get hate / woke.
