Being honest here. I didn't know what to expect because I didn't know anything about Cody aside from his incredible playing. So for him to teach picking technique, I wasn't sure if he could teach it. But man, he taught it like a legit educator. I have even more respect for him. I need to learn to use the pick now...

Its so nice to see a Pick based player become as successful as Cody. We need to break that stereotype that you MUST finger pick in order to become a great Bassist.

Bobby Vega must be so proud. What an excellent musician.

35+ years as a finger style bass player. Have come to appreciate the percussive style of a pick in certain situations, but usually find pick players to approach bass lines like a lower register guitar.

This dude is like Bobby Vega, his pick style sounds like a bass. Good shit, man.

I have always been that man who hated playing or players who play with a pick. Fingers only on the Bass I thought. But when my right shoulder dislocated 14 years ago and never went back into socket, I had to change the way I plaid. I use Black Mountain Thumb Picks now and can't believe how much fun I get out of playing the Bass again. I did give up for a good 10 years but no stopping me know.

I have never heard of a pick having tone and affecting it. Learn something new everyday ! That opening groove was sick.

Absolutely smashed it. The best lesson on you tube for pick playing.
Thanks for sharing your technique it's just a matter of perseverance and practice.

Mostly been a finger player but lately have been working on my plectrum skills. Played guitar quite a bit over the past several years so that has helped a lot. Been hunting for MY favorite plectrum ... trying all kinds of shapes, sizes and thickness. I finally bought some of these Prime Tone Dunlops that Cody referenced in the video ... I think my quest is done. They work/sound awesome on my basses with flat wounds AND my basses with round wounds! That's where I've been .. one pick for flats, one for rounds ... Cheers!

This is probably the thirtieth pick video I've been watching over the last three weeks - this one covered all my questions! Thank you so much for this!

I recently lost feeling in my right hand and decided to switch to playing with a pick. This is a great video. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Cody! I recently found out about bobby vega and was blown away. I was mostly a finger style player and started with the pick several years ago. I'm learning this pick technique and it was a very helpful video. One thing I find is that it feel more natural for me to hold the pick between my thumb and pad of my finger instead of the thumb and first index knuckle as you appear to do. One problem is that my finger nail can catch on the upstroke.
