Everything GREAT About Twister!

Twisters is out! It's that cutie pie Glen Powell, who's no Helen Hunt, but he gives Bill Paxton (even the 1996 Pax) a run for his money. Enough name dropping! This movie falls into the "classic" category for me, but I've learned recently that not everyone loves it the way I do. Let's fix that! Here's everything right with Twister!

Watch my 2 new reactions!

“Cow. Another cow” “I think it’s the same one” is one of my favorite lines in all of cinema

"Can I drive?" "No!" "Then would you?" is such a wonderful deadpan delivery.

Dusty was the best character in this movie. It's impossible not to be endeared by his sheer enthusiasm, and Philip Seymour Hoffman really makes him memorable.

Ever since I was a kid, I always thought that the reason Jo was obsessed with seeing the tornadoes up close and personal was because she wanted to know what may have been the last thing her father ever saw. Maybe it was a sense of morbid curiosity instilled into her, maybe it was a way she could come to terms with her father's sudden and violent death; we don't fully know, but I kind of like that it isn't fully spelled out for us.

RIP Bill Paxton and Philip Seymour Hoffman. You were both gone too soon.

16:46 fun fact: Helen Hunt's door slammed into her face due to the corn stalks and gave her a concussion. The crew jammed the doors open for every subsequent take.

Twister hits different when you grew up in Tornado Ally or Southern Ally. I lived through the time that this film portrays and while it is in and of itself a fictional story, the Storm Chasers and tornado researchers were making such strides in predicting weather and saving lives. AS a young child I remember getting less than 5 minutes warning before tornados touched down near my home and by the time I was a mid teen we could get 30 minute warnings. As much as this movie was fun, and scary, and moving; It very much gave everyone that I knew an appreciation for what these people did for us. Dozens of people I personally knew are alive because of the research that chasers did and data they gathered, sometimes at the cost of their lives. IMO, this is the most real, and realistic, classic horror movie ever made.

I love this whole video. I do wanna add that everyone chanting "Food! Food!" at Jo to get her to go to Aunt Meg's is an underrated line. I still do that to this day.

I recently found out that Dorothy was based on the real toto tech and did really help understand how tornados form this extend the warning times, awesome callout.

My dad was a storm chaser when he was younger, and he said the characters' energy and enthusiasm is on-the-nose accurate

6:05 Also Cinema Win friends, if you ever find yourself in this situation don’t ever hide under bridges or drive your car under an overpass during a tornado, the winds can do some wicked things.

I remember as a kid watching this saying, get away from the door, you don’t need to hold it, you’re in a cellar.

Rip to the legend, bill Paxton. Such a nostalgic movie, got me interested in the science of storms as a kid.

This movie made storm chasers look unreasonably cool.

Also, we need to throw in +10 wins for the Barn Burners (Bill & Jo’s group) actually being cool people to hang out with and watching out for other people.

I'm a little surprised you didnt cover the scene where they bully Jo into taking them to her aunt's house.
PS Hoffman's voice when he starts with "....food. Food!" Is ingrained in my memory

2:45 actually not technobabble, the cap is a layer of warm air that keeps storms from blowing up, once the cap erodes and breaks it actually makes storms much stronger as they violently break through and tower up over 40k feet, the dry line is an area on one side where the air is moist while the other is dry, going for a meteorological degree lol. 8:03 the core is the center of the storm where the heaviest rain and hail usually occurs
