Sam Colton was sucked into the tape: if you look at the “what’s a family” tape, the red barn in the back seemed to be distressed (heavy breathing, red eyes) when you type in Sam Colton when Amanda asks what rooster is, the barn looks at you quickly as a way to show for help, and another time when you switch scenes.

At worst Wooly might either be a computer program/some other entity, either human or otherwise, that's fixed to keep Amanda preoccupied and distracted from reality to keep her trapped, or at best he might be a trapped soul in the game just like Amanda who just wants to keep the demon possessing Amanda at bay, but those are just my theories.

My personal take is that Wooly is someone inserted into the show by Hameln to keep tabs on Amanda and simultaneously prevent her from trying to leave, and keep her stable at the same time.

I dont think he's neccesarily bad. He seems afraid of her to some extent and only has very limited power compared to her. Its possible since he understands everything thats going on, he believes he's protecting the outside world from her and possibly Balam by keeping her distracted in the tapes.

I think wooly is an agent from hameln. There were other neighbors in the tapes in front of the store that amanda killed which are probably agents too. When amanda was trying to make wooly drink a toxin, she said "it's all just pretend isnt it wooly". And when they were at the barn the reason wooly was turning back into a normal sheep was because of the thunderstorm disrupting the signal between the agent and wooly's character

My theory before watching this was that Wooly was Jordan Cook. Similar to the girl from the orange secret tape, Lauren, his soul was captured on his birthday. He was a goody-two-shoes in life, someone who didn't question authority too often, what some might call a "sheep." Unlike Rebecca, though, he doesn't remember his past life and thinks he's a cartoon character for real. So, when Amanda starts acting strange, it genuinely creeps him out and he's just trying to keep the peace. When he realizes that something isn't right, he tries to warn the player but Amanda stops him. Also, Joanne Cook's note mentioned that after her brother disappeared, her parents did as well. I figured that a couple of the sheep at the petting zoo were the parents, so Jordan was reunited with his family for just that little bit.

However, that last theory is equally intriguing. It would explain why Amanda is so hostile to this character who is supposed to be her best friend. Still, Wooly being evil doesn't really sound right to me. I could be wrong though. Who knows?

honestly im so happy to see someone talking about the fact that wooly is not just a victim of amanda, he is by every means her handler. designed to keep her sated and not finding out the truth of what happened to her and her father. for instance, you can see how mortified wooly looks if you choose to input “sam” (rebeccas fathers name) in the farm episode.
in my personal opinion, i don’t imagine wooly had a real life person counterpart, but rather he represents hamelin as a whole - the doctor theory is extremely compelling though! however, i also don’t believe he is *evil* either, as he seems to be his own character outside of that. he gets continually hurt throughout the game as a result of being a tool for hamelin, and he is shown showing at least some sympathy for her. i believe this is because wooly was always in the show, even before hamelin took control - back when it was just sam creating it - but his purpose is no longer to co-star. it’s to keep amanda in check. (hence why he is always so reluctant and uncomfortable and nervous.)

in my interpretation, he is not doing what he does to necessarily control amanda outright, but rather an unwilling caretaker who needs to use those sorts of means. something i love about the game is that these characters ARE very complex! i honestly could talk about it forever. amanda has every right to be frustrated with wooly when he is constantly steering her away from the truth and dismissing her feelings, and whilst woolys intentions aren’t totally pure, they WOULD keep her from suffering with the reality of it.

this is all to say i loved this video!!! and i love finally getting rep that wooly is not just an innocent victim of amanda. theyre both victims, but both do horrible things too. and i love them both so so much 🗣️‼️‼️

in my opinion, the “you don’t have to answer that” moment seems to contradict the evil wooly theory. In the situation, all answers end in you being killed. the only way to stay alive is to not answer. he didn’t tell us to tell her no, that not everything rots, he gave us the only instructions that would lead to our survival: don’t answer. He also seems genuinely afraid of her, and doesn’t necessarily always keep the show on track all the time, he tries to speak to us directly and off script before amanda stops him. however, i do think the wool and trickery symbolism is really strong. I think what will confirm or debunk this theory will be finding out exactly what hameln was trying to do. if they didn’t intend for children to be kidnapped by the demon they summoned, then wooly could be from hameln. but if this was all part of their plan, which it kinda seems to be, (like what else were they trying to do by summoning a literal demon ??) then wooly likely isn’t on their side. if wooly was on the side of the people who tried to turn amanda into a child snatching monster, he wouldn’t be trying to keep the peace with her all the time and guide us to safety.

The last one is obviously the right one. The fact that people just chose to side with Wooly against the possible tormented soul of an exploited and murdered child speaks volumes of his character.

With the unidentified man who slams their hands on the table when you find all secret tapes, I thought that the mysterious figure could have been the one recording Sam and Rebecca at 2:23 - We are unsure who was recording their conversation, so that is a theory that can be considered.

HEAR ME OUT: I think wooly was the person recording the secret tape where rebecca was reading off names of demons who got caught and put into the tapes. We currently don't really know who had recorded that tape, and my thoughts are it could've been a hameln employee who wasn't actually involved in what was going on and got suspicious of them.

I think it'd make sense because wooly seems to a lot of the time go along with what amanda is doing until he thinks it could cause harm. I also don't think that it's a doctor or generally someone who knew hameln's real plans because in every version of the game (besides the demo of this one) he's always warned riley to turn off the tapes/destroy them. He very obviously knows that amanda can lose control and will go after whoever's watching the tapes.

Also, there's a bit of similarity to the two. We don't have any hints as to who was recording that video, and with wooly the creators try to make us as confused as possible to who he could actually be. I dunno, I don't see enough people talking about the person who recorded the tape. My only other thought of who they could be (because I do think they could be important to the story) is the person who breaks into the attic at the end of the "true" ending. I mean, that'd make sense too, but this is already a few paragraphs so I'll stop here.

Also please tell me if I got any info wrong!! my memory isn't the best and there's a lot of info in this game so I could've gotten something wrong / misremembered it.

Wooly was the reader of the books before the animated series began. It says that reading with wooly is cancelled on one of the tapes where sam says too the interviewer you know what its like too have big dreams and a lil budget. 😊❤

The thing is, when you say yes to Amanda’s question at the end of the Everything Rots tape, both Amanda AND Wooly look sad before the demon is manifested. And in the first accidents tape, after Amanda hurts Wooly, SHE is the one keep the episode on track, while Wooly is the one saying he didn’t trip.

I honestly think Wooly is the neurosurgeon or a Hameln employee. “It’s all pretend, isn’t it Wooly?” That sarcastic jab was personal💀. It seemed like she was echoing words that were said to her (just look at her face as he drinks the sedative😭). I can tell that her animosity towards him is just her lashing out because she and her dad were lied to and wronged.

Part of me wonders, though, if Wooly was an employee who didn’t have all the answers and was eventually screwed over by Hameln too. He could’ve been an intern or something who was offered an opportunity to work on a big project, but wasn’t disclosed all of the details (maybe they told him he was just gonna look after a kid or something? They could’ve even convinced him that his role in all of this was genuinely for the greater good). In a sense, the wool was pulled over his eyes too.

He might’ve agreed if he wanted to prove himself as someone useful to the company without knowing that Hameln already deemed him as disposable. It seems like Hameln might’ve abandoned the project (assuming Riley’s watching the old tapes in 2023), meaning they not only abandoned Amanda, but whoever Wooly was too.

He might’ve started out bad, but there are moments where he seems sad or remorseful about the whole situation (though I think it could all be a guise), and I wonder his views towards Hameln has changed. I definitely don’t think he’s as good as he wants us to think, but I love his character because despite him being likeable, there’s still a think air of mystery surrounding him, especially with the book with “Who is Wooly?” written on it in code.

My personal favorite was the "Wooly is evil" theory as I felt it made the most sense given what you've provided, especially when you pointed out the three ways to beat the game without anything bad happening to us.
1. Saying no to Amanda when she asks to share a secret
2. Accepting her offer
3. Same as 2, but now we have all the tapes.
And it's kind of suspicious to me as well that you only get that tape AFTER Wooly is apprehended. It almost makes it feel like he's an obstacle in Amanda's way.

I actually saw a theory that basically merges your AI and Doctor theory. Wooly is not an actual human being somehow in the tapes or influencing from the outside. He's an AI, an actual character made for the show. The thing is however that the doctors etc told him what was right, therefore shaping his perception of things to their own will and forcing Wooly in the wolf in sheeps clothing/pulling wool over your eyes role. When things get off script he gets nervous and uncomfortable, trying to get things back on track because that's what he was told to do. In the secret tape where Wooly is just siting quietly for 11 minutes and only yawning or scratching himself occasionally he's calm because there's not really rules to be broken and it's the calmest we've ever seen him. He tries to do the right thing, but since his view is only the inside of the tapes and knowledge of the viewer watching he can't really judge himself and just does what he was told was right.

I like the last theory, and I think it makes for a potentially neat bait-and-switch type of situation. You initially think Amanda is the "villain" because she's so aggressive and hostile, but it's actually Wooly, who is more friendly. To me Amanda is moreso just a child angry at what has been done to her and lashes out.

Wooly is Baa lamb and he's trying to keep her there. Not only that but she knows the words baa lamb worked and hates him because of what he's done to her. He's keeping her hostage and possessed.

Omg! For the last theory I once thought about an Au where Wooly’s the bad one! Because at the time Wooly seemed like the obvious good one. But I think he is definitely not the best person here, whether he knows it or not. Seeing his disregard for Amanda when she’s troubled or says she feels she’s rotting, only showing concern when she starts to play with a knife, says he doesn’t really care about her or at least her well being. Being concerned about the knife could also easily be said he was afraid she was going to hurt him, or afraid that this was setting a bad example for the children watching.
