How To: Front Brake Through Stem

This How To video is one I’ve been asked to do for a while, how to route your front brake through your steerer tube and stem. The reason to do this is so that your front wheel and handlebars can do a full rotation without ripping your front brake hose. I set my bike up like this for doing tricks like tailwhips and barspins, but it’s also great to make your bike less likely to rip your front brake hose off in a crash. It also makes for a very clean look on the front end of your bike. This is something that started with BMX freestyle bikes, but I made this one look much cleaner and sleeker than how bmxer’s used to set theirs up.

Hey, I missed something ! How do you make the pipe enter the top cap/steerer tube if you use an undrilled top cap ?

Good video by the way ! Loved the videos with seth :)

Why would you need a star nut tool?

All Sam Pilgrim uses is a rock😂

Man, I love this channel. BTW, the way you showed *_was the only way we had_* to install 'star nuts' [our words] back in the day. Achievement Unlocked: Field Expedience +1000!

I see you’ve left seths house 😥 I was loving the videos with you and him

Hey Eric. I would also suggest sliding a bit of heavy duty heat shrink tubing in the star nut zone on yer brake cable. Little extra protection never or does well at least consider it. Enjoyment riding, dirt fun. Peace!

Wow, so happy I watched this. I was literally about to install a hallow star nut but was having second thoughts because I thought it might look goofy...gotta look good out there...anyway I can't do bar spins,

I was wondering why this is better than just using a hollow star nut & bolt. It seems like the routing is much cleaner on a mountain bike since the brake line is come front the side vs a bmx where the line comes down from above. Is that accurate?

I don't do bar spins but maybe I should do this because I crash alot 🤔

Now all we need is a way to put a gyro for the rear brake and voilà, unlimited barspins, whips, and the cleanest cockpit

Noob question how much extra length for the front brake hose needed? It seems that there is no extra length needed u just cut to length am I right? How does it not get tangled during bar spins?

How about do something similar to a rear brake for a DJ set-up ? No front brake but still need to do infinite barspins, would that be possible?

can we put dropper post cable into it?

Could you please maybe do an experimental video on doing this with a granite stash multi tool installed? I just got one and I want to do bar spins as well but I don't want to drill a hole in it incase it weakens it

Why you don't even show the top spacer? It's not like I need to know exactly what you did there 😅

Question: Did you cut all the way down the spacer like a "C" or must keep some material to not open when you thigh the screw?

Nice hack. Forgot to mention the hole in the spacer, good thing i read the comments. 😄😄
