The Story of Dark Deception Chapter 1-3 Explained

Dark Deception has a mysterious story, revealed piece by piece as our protagonist Doug Houser makes his way through it's episodic narrative. Currently we don't have a complete story as only chapter 1-3 of Dark Deception has released as of this video. However with Dark Deception chapter 4 coming soon, it feels like the perfect time to recap events and discuss what exactly is going on in the story of Dark Deception.

I think it would be great if we find out during your stays in the portals, Malak has been figuring you out. Seeing who exactly you are and why you're so persistent. Then the final level is Doug's wife and daughter. The ultimate "monsters" in his life. Either by a nightmare hallucination scenario or maybe Malak actually goes to the underworld and retrieves their souls.

Possible endings theory:

Ending 1: The Betrayal - we give the ring to Bierce and in turn she grows to be just as if not more powerful than Malek (spelling?) so she takes out Malek, says they were right to tell us not to trust her and condemns us to darkness, our punishment for the crimes we committed.

Ending 2: Join Forces - we give the ring to Malek who gives Bierce her due for her contract before and subsequent punishment for going back on it. As a “reward” for our co-operation, Malek makes us one of his minions.

Ending 3: The Sacrifice - we don’t give either of them the ring but learn of a way to save our wife and daughter by sacrificing ourself for them by using the ring. Time has reversed to where instead of the wife and child dying in the car crash, we do.

I think we'll get three endings. One where we trust Bierce, one where we trust Malak, and the true ending is if we find the relic that E used and escape with it

Bierce would definitely betrayed us. She made a deal with a demon and killed an innocent girl after all. But I don't think we will turn to Malak after that, he would hate us for helping her to be powerful. I do think we might join forces with the mysterious clever girl. If the theory that the girl is Doug's wife is correct, then this might become more interesting....

I certainly see this being a multi-ending game, what with it's many hidden secrets and all that. I figure that they'll likely be two or three main endings: Ending one, help Bierce, Ending two help Malak, and maybe a third option to help yourself. However, given this dark story and the idea that our protagonist is in Hell or Purgatory, I don't see any ending being a very "happy" one.

My guess it the "best" ending will require you to find all secrets in the levels, then meet the mysterious E. I agree with SuperHorrorBro that she's likely Doug's wife. Though I don't think the game will allow Doug to resurrect her and his daughter, I do think at the very least he might be able to put their souls to rest. He might also get the opportunity to apologize for his sins in life, and for subjecting his family to torment.

As for final boss territory my guess is going to be facing Doug's daughter. I think perhaps Malak will request the aid of Agatha and will offer Doug's daughter a chance for revenge against the father that rejected her and likely killed her and her mother. Final level might be a race against what's essentially 2 Agathas with Doug's daughter being one that you get penalized for stunning. That, or it could be sort of boss run where you have to randomly face a monster from a level with Doug's daughter thrown is there to penalize you if you get trigger happy with stuns.

I haven’t kept tabs on Dark Deception for a while, so I had no idea we now know what Doug looks like. When he showed up on screen in the video I was quite surprised!

I honestly liked what I thought the story was at first: About a detective who uses the dark arts to figure out the answers behind a bunch of crimes and murders. When I saw the floating file folders and documents around each area, I thought that to be the case, but I wasn't really paying attention to anything else. Since I was watching Markiplier play it, I was more in it for the scares rather than the plot so I think about it so deeply or look at the wikis and stuff.

Even with only the first chapter out all that time ago I had known something was up. Bierce definitely wasn't some savior to Doug but rather a puppet master looking to use him to get what she wanted and then destroy Doug when his use was up.

I knew it.

Edit: And it seems that girl mentioned in the beginning is still alive and kicking. Wonder if that means the Devs will have Doug run into her further down the line.

Is it terrible that I am hoping there are multiple endings for the game. I mean it would be so cool if there was an ending where you side with bierce, side with Malik, betray both, and a special one for getting s rank and collecting all the secrets.

Before when I saw DD stuff, I skipped it because I figured I had no idea what was going on or anything about it, but this video helped me get started on understanding it and now I've watched basically all of the vids on DD (new and old) and am excited for the final chapter.

3:35 so if certain written works are to be believed all demons are actually fallen angels, so a demon having an artefact named the riddles heaven kinda makes sense as it was possible guarding it when it was cast out and as it fell it got bound to the item.
