You might have a better catch rate if you turn your trap 90 degrees, so the animal is stepping into the trap. When the trap fires, the loose jaw always comes up first. By him stepping over the loose jaw, it will throw his foot out of the trap. By setting the trap long ways to the hole, the trap will close around his foot and you’ll catch him deeper in the trap. This trick was taught to me by an old trapper, who raised 12 kids trapping for 40 years. Also, He used beaver castor in his dirt holes. They can’t pass it up! Your looking good, enjoyed your video.

For me being a complete and absolute this was the most informative and best video yet! You really took your time and broke it all down!

I'm 77 and trap no more but when I did trap I would set my trap like you did in front of a hole. When I would dig out a spot for my trap I would set the trap and put it in place and slip a piece of wax paper under the trip plate and over the two trap jaws. This way when I would sprinkle dirt or snow the wax paper kept dirt and snow from building up under the trip plate.

This guy is not scared of his traps at all.😂😂

I am terrified when I am cleaning off the pan bedding the trap😂

Awesome brother. You can tell you’ve done that a few times. Nice to see young guys that are carrying on a trade that help build our country... Keep it up before they make it illegal.

More explanation would help a lot. Like, what trap? What was that chain setup you pounded in to the ground? I'm from red dirt part of the country, grew up hunting and have a good grasp on mechanics but I think I have more questions after watching this lol

I used to uses plastic screen cutouts for pan covers, calcium chloride in the dirt mix after frost, and always gland lure and urine at the top of the hole lip only…they’d want to piss on it, often got a back leg catch if they didn’t step on it on way in to sniff hole. Always set pan slightly depressed and w dog at about 2 o’clock.
