I've been messing around with mopeds for over ten years now and it's a blast watching you do stuff that I did way back when (and remember why....?). Keep up the great work!!!!

In case you guys weren’t aware, some gy6 (really any cdi equipped engine) are setup to use an ac cdi and some use dc cdi. The difference being obvious, the ac is for alternating current and the dc for direct current. What does that mean though, simply, the ac models generate their own electricity (ac voltage) to power the cdi whereas the dc requires 12 bolts dc power from the battery for the cdi. The ac equipped bikes will run even with a dead battery.
How to tell the difference easily? If you turn the key on with the engine off, if the headlight comes on then you’ve got a dc cdi typically. This of course assumes the battery is charged so in cases of a dead battery then hook up jumper cables to a car first before the key on light test. Also a dc cdi is typically about 1.5 physically larger than an ac cdi because it has more circuits inside for the dc portion. Most 50cc are ac cdi. It’s a toss up on 150 gy6. Most kymco are dc except for the two stroke kymcos are ac. Most all two strokes are ac for that matter.

Some rules of thumb regarding clutch and cvt. Roller weight controls when the variator (front pulley what you guys called clutch) “shifts” from low “gear” to high. Lighter rollers aren’t thrown out by centrifugal force as easily so the variator won’t shift as soon/in other words the engine will rev higher before it shifts. The opposite for heavier weight rollers. Top speed is a function of horsepower and final drive gearing (there’s a small gear set behind the rear pulley/centrifugal clutch ) unless you’ve got the cvt all out of wack/engine running poorly/extremely low on power. For optimum performance you will need to tune the roller weights and the clutch springs that hold the clutch shoes from engageing the bell. There’s also a “conta” torque spring under the clutch in between it and the rear pulley sheaves. A slightly stiffer contra spring usually helps it stay in low gear longer and keeps the belt from slipping too. The ideal setup (once all tuned right with rollers and those springs) would be clutch springs that let the engine rev up to peak torque (think stall converter in an automatic trans race car) before they engage the clutch, and light enough rollers in the variator to let it wind out (use all of it low gear) then shift into high and let it rev till top speed (gear ratio determined/rev limiter determined)!
As far as Amazon stuff goes, the yellow contra and clutch springs are usually a step stiffer and quite noticeable improvement for $10-20.
If you go brand name like Malossi or Polini then the colors may or may not be the same. There’s clutch springs available that will stall anywhere from 1500 for those yellows up to some full race 8000rpm springs. Cvt tuning is the first place you want to get right! Night and day difference. Those Tao Tao 50s in your other video will go 40 mph with yellow contra and clutch springs so long as the engine is running right which 90% of the time is just making sure the pilot jet is clear (there’s a tiny hole thru the center not just the four holes going sideways ) and the rest of the carb is spotless. Those engines are simple. Those racing cdi don’t truly do anything except they run full advance at all times (in other words they don’t have less timing advance at low rpm to make the engine easier to start like the stock ones have). That’s why it felt snappier off the line but once revving the are identical after the timing curve kicks to full advance. It’s been proven on the dyno and with timing light and ossilliscope. Actually with a big bore kit with high compression the stock starter won’t be able to start it cause it’ll have to much advance at idle/start rpm.
Welcome to the addicting world cheap scooter mods! It fun asf isn’t it😂

This is my first of your videos and I subbed so fast!

I was a scooter mechanic for 2.5 years and after a few years of driving cars I'm ready for like my 10th scooter.

Gonna get a 2021 Peace Sports 808-7G from the dealer I worked for.

First upgrades:
Serviceable carb with a 114 main jet.
Performance clutch, cdi, air filter and exhaust.
Ankle bitter.
Under glow.

Just installed a 47mm 80cc BBK on my Tao Tao, things got well over 10k miles on it but runs like a champ. went from 30 MPH when i first got it to 40 after some basic derestriction and tuning, to 50 MPH after the BBK. Still got some fine tuning to do on the carb and CVT upgrades on the way.

Ahh man i looked forward towards installing that cdi too. Thanks for the shout-out, I'll dm you guys.

If you actually wanna wheelie properly it's about throttle control and you need to keep your hand on the rear brake. Give it gas to get it up and brake to get it down then balance it out to hold the wheelie. Scooters a pretty big in the Netherlands since everything's close by here and there's scooters with some real street cred. Nice to see you Americans getting into them.

I just got an ‘87 Honda Elite 150 I stripped down to the frame, opened the air box up a little and chopped the giant OEM muffler off and rewelded the actual pipe, to save on buying a muffler lol. Rolling wrench has some good products for sale to help dial in the carbs after mods, so you don’t have to buy a whole bunch of jets you’ll never use. I’m gonna add a tube across the front forks to tie them together and weld two pipes from steering neck back to passenger peg frame to add stiffness and better corner handling. As these scooters around corners feels like a water weenie trying to hold a straight line/curve

Just bought a cheap 150cc scooter. $200 and it’s a 2020 with 1.7k miles. No spark but everything else looks good. Cleaned up the pickup and waiting on a new CDI box and plug wire, very excited to get this thing back on the road

I just bought a 2001 Honda reflex 250 which we call a Honda Forza here in Australia. I just bought an aftermarket performance exhaust that I had to order from japan and can't wait to do it up.

Thank you, Kenny

I have a purple 08 Roketta with the same body plastics. 50cc with a BBK, CDI, 20mm carb, open exhaust, and 6.5 gram weights. I get 47 MPH all day. I'm building a new bike out if a free junker. 50cc with a BBK, CDI, A9 cam, 18mm carb, open exhaust, 8gram weights. Also 47 MPH, but quicker.

I've got the same moped, but in blue and modded a bit more, I took the head light off and some other dumb plastics, and it's been one of my favorite wheelie rigs I've ever owned
