After a night of drinking, tea is one of the best ways to recover from a hangover. This is especially true for theanine rich tea such as Japanese Sencha or Gyokuro.

I've had practically no alcohol in years. Every time I consider a wee dram of whisky, the tea shouts more loudly and I give in to the good leaf. 🍃 💚 🍃

We're in the same boat today. I was having Sencha Karigane (high theanine) when I saw your post. Was drinking Roku Gin martinis last night. An exceptional Japanese gin infused with both sencha and gyokuro. Cheers comrade 🍵🍙
Clearly, sencha is a go-to for me for hangovers. It works in synergy with a bowl of rice with a fried egg on it, with nori and umeboshi. I also find raw pu erh and fried Chinese food to work very well. GABA tea works best at the 48-72 hour mark after drinking, when the body withdraws and some develop cravings and a habit. Alcohol is a GABA drug and so GABA tea mimics alcohol and dispells the cravings.

There is also the psychosomatic effect of the positive emotional state that comes with drinking good tea.

Wine drunk is by no means fun and you can tell it on his face. I can almost promise he woke up hearing his own heartbeat and he’s STILL drinking the tea like a review. Bravo sir

Hey Don, great vid. When I was living in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia I used to frequent a bar. I was good friends with the bar owner, and his father would pour me a pitcher of green tea to drink alongside my beer, whilst waiting for the Boss to arrive. I got the feeling it was tea he would personally drink, and that it was really good tea at that. It was a special gift, not given to the usual patrons. It really extended the evening. I have no idea what the teas were, as the father would select something special for each night, but it was an amazing experience. I truly drank some wonderful teas but at the time, had no knowledge, or communication strategy, to learn from and appreciate them.

Since I started drinking green tea, specifically matcha, my health has greatly improved. I catch far fewer flu and cold viruses and suffer with fewer sinus headaches. It's great to hear that it helps with hangovers as well. I avoid alcohol at all costs as I hate the way it makes me feel and of course the dreaded "booby prize" the next day. :-/ Love how tea helps to clear brain fog. :) I do not drink but often suffer from sleep deprived 'hangovers'. Green tea works wonders. :)

@Don & Celine... Sadly I've watched every video you've made more than once & some x3. I really look forward to next year's Tea Trips. Those videos are awesome to watch & learn from. I've ordered many teas from MeiLeaf.com but not as many as I want😬 Thank You both for the free videos because honestly you could sell them as documentaries. When I make it to London, I definitely will take time out for a MeiLeaf visit hopefully you'll be around when I do because I'd love to say Hi & meet you both. Thanks again for the great videos & for sharing them with the world aaaandd for setting alight the Tea Spark that was sitting quietly in my heart😋

Had the worst hang over I've ever had last weekend (never ever thought I'd be in a position to say I had too much scotch.. but lots of shenanigans ahead of that).

Will be prepared for next time! Love the tea videos.

Hey, just a random thought since you talked about alcohol. I really like whisky and I usually drink my tea in a glencairn glass and would recommend it to anyone who has those. I think it really helps with getting the aromas of the liquor.

Any tips for disposing of teas like sencha and ripe? No matter how careful I am, i always get some going down the sink and choking it up after a while

Drinking now the 37th cup of a ripe pu erh and this video showed up. If only I could overcome my giggliness...
Love you all tea heads, thanks for your knowledge Don.

What about a list of high-theanine teas? This would be very helpful.
I'm always with a Gyokuro, not only after hangover but also when I had a miserable day

I tend to favour a ripe pu erh blended with either some fresh ginger or mint for a hangover.
Will have to try Japanese Sencha next time. :)

After a night of vodka or whatever, I crave radishes, and I devour the hell out of them, I don’t know why, but that’s what I do, and I don’t get hangovers.
Gua Pian is a nice brew, also, as a counter hangover beverage.
