Color is one of the smallest adjustments you can make to a particle to get massive visual changes for the player - Definitely experiment and play with these settings if you get the chance-!!

anyone know if its possible to set the colour points on the curve to be variables that can be changed when spawning an emitter/system?

"you can probably do it with modules", yes, several different ways.

spawn groups with multiple spawn modules(hidden under the drop down arrow in whatever spawn module you have, and then you have to use dynamic inputs)
there's the partition particles module
a few different ways with dynamic inputs as well that i can think of.

Is there a way to control the random distribution of particles? I ask, because the red and green aren't overlapping their particles, even though it's a duplicate of the system.

why does the effect just disappear when you set it to black?

Thanks for sharing. I hope you don't mind me giving a small note... maybe try toning down the 1950's DJ voice. People generally don't like someone yelling in their ear when trying to learn something. Just speak normally. :)
