Surely the water only make rust if its in contact with a ferrous metal... I'm sure it is just surface rust but doesn't that mean that the e-coating isn't working otherwise the water wouldn't be in contact with metal. I can leave moisture in a plastic bottle or glass for ever and it won't rust because it's not in contact with iron. I know that surface rust won't significantly change the weight, but the rust (iron oxide) is getting the iron part from somewhere and if it is properly sealed with the e-coating then where is the iron coming from? Just to reiterate, I don't think it makes a significant or perceptible difference to the weight, but the rust isn't just magicking itself there.

The rust may come off easy but the armory still won’t take it after 4 tries

Maybe a lil' machine oil on a rag will hold back some rust. Wipe all your plates down once every 3 months will take care of that.

the coating creates an oxidizing layer and the parent metal stays undamaged.
