It's a free update for an almost 8 years old game which is still amazing by today's standarts. Yet some people are still whining about it like expecting a complete remake with Unreal Engine 5. I'm just glad that they spent time for this when they don't have to and its free.

Even with RT off the visuals are still amazing

The simply yet genius idea of the smoke stacks in the far background makes the world feel more alive and bigger.

This is by far the best comparison video i have seen on YT, well done.

Promise Im not complaining about how the raytracing looks, but I think it’s crazy how little of a difference it has. If anything it shows how great the lighting design already is for this game. Personally, I’m more excited for the new camera angles and dynamic HUD. Can’t wait for this update!

This game was already beautiful, now it's divine!

Beautiful. Just look how colours and lightning changes in shadowed places or on Geralt, no more flat, fake light, it all fits in overall picture perfectly now (for example, 6:00). Really impressed how they implemented it. Can't wait to see it in dialogues and cutscenes, and with Ciri as a player.

Bright places won't look different, because that's the definition of RT. It takes strong, reflected light and give some of it to the darker places. So no point in looking at strongly lit places and thinking that there is no difference, there obviously won't be any.

5:42 If I was playing this on PS5 this is the main reason I would be turning off RT. Smooth 60 fps is much more noticeable during actual gameplay than the subtle RT effects at 30 fps.

Just so everyone knows. The console update does not include RTX reflections. Only improved SSR when using the quality setting. Sad times but the SSR still looks so much better

I don't know, maybe I'm blind but I fail to see any significant noticable effect, yet I did notice significant drop in performance in the RT side of things.

Call me blind. But even when I look close, the only 'real' differences is a slight change of texture, softening and slightly different color grade and perhaps some changes to the water etc. It looks like some third party mod is active here.

To say I can truelly see the raytracing, I would be lying. And maybe that's a compliment to CDRP as their vanilla game already had great shadows, reflections and lightpoints, as if some alternative form of tracing was used already. The game looks beautiful, both on and off. I will see tomorrow how the RT version will look on my PC, but so far I am just as impressed as unimpressed, but that's mainly due to the marketing trying to re-hype the game, and some of the user base that thinks they get a totally new game.

But again, I must be blind. Seeing how so many here in the comments seeing things I do not see. Probably just me being sceptic.

2:40 streets of novigrad made me realise how rtx makes difference.. sure i prefer performance over quality.. i never found anything bad with rtx off.. but man after watching how much global illumination and shadows makes difference in that one shot i can defo say i'll just use rtx for roaming around in city.. its sooo damm good with rtx

It just doesn't make a big enough difference for me to have on. Especially with the massive framerate drop that it'll most likely cause.

It looks better, but not so much to give 50% of FPS for it.

is it just me or the only real difference i see with ray tracing is reduced frame rates. they did such a good job with the original that I have to REALLY search for noticeable differences.

Good video, far better than most other comparisons posted so far. Can't wait to see the PC difference.

Great update, but i have to say it and it's not only about this game, how much do you gain in image quality to justify having half the images each second? When you think about it, ray tracing requires to much to sacrifice and gives so little. I am aware of the differences and how light works, but do you really notice this stuff without stoping and making the effort to notice some indirect lighting. Devs, 60 fps should not be an option it should be required and then you can add fancy stuff on top. If you can't, well why bother. 60 fps you instantly feel the difference and you feel 100% of the time you spend on a game and you will play it for a long time. Indirect lighting and reflection you feel them only when you stop to take a screenshot. Actualy raytracing should be activated everytime you engage photomode it would be great.

Who else got kinda dizzy watching Geralt ride the horse with RT turned on?

I can see a difference, especially when it comes to reflection on water, but it’s subtle.
The problem with RT is that the cost is huge. I understand that people will go for the rt off just to hit the 60 fps.

I’m on pc with a rtx 2070 super. I’ll give RT a try and see how my machine handles it.
As long as I’m above 60 fps, I’ll stay with RT on.
